I always think of it as an expression of aggravation. I wouldn't be offended unless it was supposed to be a children's site.

Its original meaning was to repair holes in socks, but it is rarely used in that sense anymore. It's not a swear word, but it is only one letter different from a swear word. People sometimes say it instead of saying a swear word when they are upset, and it can be used without offense in almost any context.

Darn itself isn't a foul word. yet how that's getting used could be, oftentimes via infants somewhat older. a great number of infants in recent times are exceptionally smart and characteristic gotten into substituting different phrases for swear phrases...however the reason being a similar. The 6yr previous female on your Karate class in all probability won't be able to distinquish reason and in all probability had an older sibling that grew to become into corrected for applying the word in this way of way. i does no longer get weirded out via it, even nonetheless it supplies a exceptionally stable thought on how human beings could nicely be truthfully misinterpreted or midjudged.

Darn isn't a swear word. It's a word people use instead of da*n, just like heck instead of he*l, or shoot instead of sh*t. They're substitutes for swear words.

I think it comes from darning socks... you know, like, making socks.
(your supposed to be the granny here)
It sounds somewhat similar to the word it's supposed to replace. I don't think bad language is "sinful". It's just a bad habit. Besides, I think a good expletive once in a while relieves you of tension.
