Although sharp the samurai would probably break his flimsy little sword on the Spartans shield
Then like a beast from the pits of hell, the spartan would unleash his fury upon the weak and poorly defended Samurai sending him running for the rice patties.

ALthough Spartans are trained well during their childhood, the samurai trained not only physically, but also mentally and spiritually. The art of Bushido is not about war or violence which is the opposite for Spartan training. Because Spartans are used to fighting, they have exceptional skills, but when you combine your whole being and apply that into combat, the samurai can beat you where you are weakest. Sorry to say, Spartans can be beaten because they can be blinded by their anger. Samurais have trained to control such emotions and are very aware of every movement of the enemy. Aside from that, if you look at how Spartans move, they're used to the usual lunging, and aggressive stance, although they have sheilds, it is also a source of overconfidence in them. Samurais will know this as a weakness and can be used against them. They also move in a fluid manner, in circular motion, the opponent can be easily thrown off balance, which leaves an open spot for the Samurai to deliver it's razor-sharp and seemingly indestructible sword against its opponent. Besides, their spears can be easily broken by the Samurai sword. This is not based on movies, it's just based on the facts that the Art of Bushido has an entirely different focus that would make its warriors efficient in battle. Also, if a samurai loses its sword, he can still fight because they were trained in Jujitsu. For as long as he would face 2 -3 opponents at the same time, the odds aren't that as good for Spartans. The question now is, how would a spartan react to a samurai who can fight without a weapon? Would a spartan use his brute strength? or get his shield and spear for which he has been totally reliant on since his early training?

a samurai would chop a hoplite to pieces. samurai had on very affective yet light armor, and had a sword that would chop a hoplite to bits. a hoplite is only affective in a phalanx formation; otherwise they would undoubtedly turn tail and run

The spartan would have a shield and that's quite an advantage.

if it was one on one, the samurai. if it was a clash of armies, the phalanx would conquer. havent you seen 300? a shield wall doesnt work as well if theres only one shield.
