I'm wondering if there is some sort of 'formula' that I could put on the grass so the dogs don't want to be around the area, or something that would neutralize the scent of other dogs. It seems like my lawn is the local potty stop. Help!

That's so gross...I get mad when other people do not pick up after their dogs. There's stuff you can get at Home Depot or Lowes in the garden shop that will keep dogs, cats etc off of your grass...you want to be careful using it if if you have children though....and you have reapply it after it rains.

I saw this on a small tombstone-shaped sign in one yard:
"Here lies the remains of the last dog that pooped in my lawn" I thought it was funny & at the same time to the point. If you live in the country like I do where dogs run free -that is a different matter and I consider it one of the trade-offs of country life.

You can put water with vinegar in a spray bottle, and when you catch the dog on your lawn, spray it in the face.

At night you can urinate on your lawn to mark your territory. I haven't heard this from anybody really, but I had the idea when I was younger and tried it. The dogs stayed away from a while, but they eventually came back. Stupid dogs.

oh I feel your pain, we had the same problem. If I caught owners letting them pee or poop in the yard I confronted them and let them know I didn't appreciate it and it is a violation in our city. Some owners caught on and respected it. Just to deter new neighborhood people, I put a small sign in the yard that says "Warning! Yard treated with chemicals hazardous to pets!" Works like a charm and they go to great lengths to avoid my yard, didn't even have to put anything down!

throw it at the dogs owners..lol.. there's some animal urine (can't remember what animal but check the web) you can put on your lawn that is susposed to help keep animals away.. i think it works more with cats then dogs.. why not put up a sign asking nicely to clean up after your dog?

Go to flea markets and buy old traps, have them disabled but leave them chained to stakes in the dooryard, most dog owners will freak out and accuse you of being a murderer. But it's more polite than using a BB gun.

Get some spices from the 99 cent store, like red pepper, cloves, anything that smells yucky. And sprinkle it around

You could get a giant man-eating dog and chain it up so it can reach everywhere on your lawn.

I'm not sure, you could probably find something like that at petcity, petco, or some pet shop. Just ask one of the associates that work there. If I catch them in the act, I squirt water at their butt. That's an old trick that works.
