my friend is really shy because he's afraid of saying something dumb and can't come up with anything unique to talk about. when he does talk he actually says dumb things and asks random questions and when in a group conversation he changes the subject because he doesn't understand the other topic others were talking about. so does being shy also mean being stupid?

Not at all. A lot of people I know that are shy aren't stupid at all. I think that your friend is just uncomfortable...and he thinks that he's stupid..so he doesn't want to say anything..because when he does he's totally off topic, but a lot of shy people also think a lot more, so maybe he doesn't realize that his comments are off-topic or wrong.

I don't think it's right to call your friends stupid..idk the situation...but it's still not right to put someone down.

No shy mean afraid to ask question or answer question, will not join in the conversation, and stupid is stupid not knowing any better speaking up with out thinking saying things that do not have a meaning to it and so on not knowing and speaking anyway.

No. First, a sample size of one is not valid for making a general inference. Second, shyness is not always a matter of ignorance of social conventions. Your friend's apparent shyness could be a result of his social ineptitude, but ineptitude is not the only cause. I'm familiar with people who are not at all shy but still lack all social graces.

No, and neither does kindness. People tend to make that mistake Just because someone is shy or is rally nice or kind, does not mean that they are stupid. I always tell people, "Don't mistake my kindness for stupidity" because I am very intelligent, but I love to do nice things for people. If they treat me badly, I can move on very quickly!

I think some of the higher intellectual people are like this. They are brilliant in some things but very lacking in others--such as social skills. And being smart enough to know they are lacking in social skills tend to make them shy.

Never in any cases. Being shy doesn't mean stupid. He is only careful of what he releases in his mouth. It doesn't mean that if you find his words stupid, it is also stupid to others. Others might find it interesting. He only needs somebody to talk with. Nobody is perfect.

So I suggest to you, tell your opinions to him. I think he will listen to you.
