It gets ingrained in your system, not only music styles but also the technology that is used to play the music. My younger sister still has all her vinyl records and plays them a lot. She's about 55. Sometimes I wish I still had my old vacuum tube stereo. I can get the old artists of my youth but the sound isn't the same when played on CD. Sounds harsh to me.

I suppose you don't even like Gene Autry.....lol

This changes over the years and when you are 50-60 years old, and you will be, you will like the music you grew up with better than what the teen/20 something will be listening to.

Everybody likes Roy Orbison......don't they?

As an old people myself I don't think of the music I like as best, I just think of it as from a different era.

EDIT: I have run into a few younger folks who like the older music styles, so I guess it's all a matter of personal taste. But isn't it nice there are so many styles of music such that we can all find something that is enjoyable.

that depends on what you consider old people music, I am 21, born in the mid 80s and I absolutely love the music of the late 70s and early 80s, I like alot of the more current music as well. I think you just need to here more songs and I'm sure you'd find some that you would like

I'm sure you mean SOME old people.
I love Pop-Rock-Soul-Country-House-Rap-Motown in fact most types of music if it's done well and I'm 61 in January. When you are older a lot of the younger ones may think your taste in music is boring old junk but we can't all live in the same era and have the same taste can we?

I don't know what your view of "old" is.

I am an "80s/90s kid" but I still absolutely love Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin.

What's the alternative? Todays rap and Bubblegum Tween pop? Count me out. Yeeccch.

Because in their youth, that was THEIR favorite music...and listening to it now takes them back to those years.
I'm pretty sure 20 years from now music will be pretty different, but that wont prevent us from listening to the songs we love...even if out grandchildren think its "boring old junk".

that old people music is the root of today's music, so even if you think it is boring, you can learn a lot about the current music by listening to the past.

Have you ever tried listening to earlier music? Old doesn't mean boring.
Expand your horizons. Don't limit yourself. Don't be narrow minded. Explore. Don't be a bigot about stuff because it's "old".
End of lecture.

Why do young folk not know what true music is? The beat, rhythm, and the vocal parts to oldies are the greatest. Oldies make you want to dance to the music. Why would young people listen to rap, it is not music just talk.
