Aside from other things competing with potential viewers (like Halloween), it may also have to do with the next several episodes. Starting next week is the November "sweeps" period which is used by the networks to set advertising rates. As such, they want their biggest episodes to take place during November (and February and May) so that they get a ratings boost and can charge more for ads.

Another possible reason has to do with timing on episodes and production work. They may just have needed a week delay now to avoid having a rerun in two or three weeks (again a bad thing to do during sweeps). By delaying now, they probably expect/hope to be able to do a straight six week run into mid-December and their "holiday" episode after which they will do some reruns before starting the next 7-8 week run of episodes in mid-January.

Well it is halloween and since most people aren't home, they weren't willing to lose any ratings... so wait till next week...
