I'm not joking we have had this thing for 3 years in the attic.I have seen it come and go.I have a trap and it's too smart to fall for it or something.

My husband suggests you send a terrier up after it! Really though, call a trapper. When its trapped they come back and take it away, very humane.

Call the DNR. We had one living under our front step...cement of all things. He kept digging out all the dirt under the step. We would fill it with rocks, and the next day, the rocks were on the sidewalk and he was back. We had a pear tree in back, and he use to sit in it and eat the pears, just like a human. It was kinda cute. But they can be really mean. So I would not get too close. If he feels trapped, he will go after you!! We called the DNR, and within a day, they had humanely trapped him and taken him into the wilds. At no cost to us.

You could find it's entrance and block it off while he is out or call someone to trap it. They are VERY nasty animals. My neighbors dog decided to fight one. Cost her a lot of money to save the dogs life. Most adult groundhogs have front teeth about 2" long.

The first thing I would do is find out how he is getting in. Wild animals can and do carry diseases like rabies. Personally if I were in your position I wouldn't have any qualms about killing it. I like animals, but there is a point !
