Just figure what it costs to raise a child and have the non custodial parent pay half that cost, regardless of income. If the non custodial parent is very wealthy he or she could be required to put money into a college fund, but the custodial parent would only get half what is required to raise a child at any particular stage of life.

I receive child support. My marriage broke up in part because my ex wife thought she would be able to live on child support. Because of this notion, she didn't take any of the counseling to heart.

I also know women who have intentionally had children by different fathers in a effort to maximize the child support they receive.

I think it is fairer for the non custodial parent to pay a percentage of his or her income. How do you begin to figure how much it costs when let's say the custodial parent is the wealthy one and therefore the cost of raising the child is far more than a child with parents of modest means.

It would certainly be in the best interest of the child if the non custodial parent voluntarily paid into the college fund, however.

Not at all....support should be based up what someone earns...and making the non custodial parent pay half the the cost...regardless of income is ignorant....Besides.....it really is difficult to estimate how much money it takes to raise a child.....heard of inflation?

NO, child support goes to the child / for the child. thats to cover food, cloths, school supplies stuff the kid needs. let him pay it he made it. most of the men who have custody their mothers have their kids now while they are out making more. they shouldnt have to do without while it lays in a bank!!!!!

How is that fair to someone who only makes $6.50 an hour?

Their whole check would go to child support and there would be nothing left for them to live on.
