okay I have a hard time understanding why all the "Harvard graduates" and big name school people get the top of the line jobs on national tv, and such. It seems weird when almost all have came from harvard, yale etc, when i am sure they are no better than any other school. also, im sorry but i have to WORK for my money and dont have rich parents to pay for all my school. Would you rather hire a spoiled harvard brat, or a hardworking small town person that has had to learn the hard way in life, and in the end probably knows more. i dont understand this world!!! Cant these ppl see through this????

I'm sorry, but Harvard, Yale and other 'Ivy League' schools ARE better. The qualifications to GET IN are so high, only the very best students can make it.

However, most employers do know that not everyone can come from Harvard and Yale. Most of THEM haven't gone to an Ivy League school! If you are having a problem getting a job, I suggest you take a good look at your attitude. Blaming others -- even if they DESERVE the blame -- will get you nowhere.

There have been many, many very poor, working class people who have fought their way through college and made something of their life. But they didn't do it by resenting others who don't have to work so hard...

Good luck.

Prestige does have alot to do with hiring, but if you can get that one big break for yourself in your career, then you have an opportunity to better yourself. Just make sure to take advantage of your opportunities because theres always someone ready to take your place.

To answer you question more directly, on tv people automatically assume respect to someone who is an ivy league grad vs. a local college graduate, its just the way the world works.

It does take a lot to get into an ivy league school, but don't stop there. Most people land top positions because they are in the know. In other words, they know about the position sooner because they "know" somebody or they got the position because they "know" somebody. Hook yourself up with people in the right circles and see how fast you get where you want to go.
