and I am practicing writing essays since that is my weakness..
could someone give me an example of what to say/write in this essay..how to make it good and what examples to give
The question is:
What is your view of the concept that people construct barriers to keep themselves hidden from the world around them?

i'm not going to write or give you ideas for your essay
but here's a good tip for writing...

intro
- attention grabber
- background information
- thesis
body
- reason 1 + example
- reason 2 + example
- reason 3 + example (this may be optional, depending on how much time you have... you don't have a whole lot on the SAT)
conclusion
- restatement of thesis

also, use transitios throughout the essay so that your ideas connect well

Teens are notorious for trying to hide what's inside...you should use your own experiences. Think about situations where people deliberately construct their own world to "hide" sometimes in plain sight.

Think of the guy who is shy, and wears his hair down in his face so people can't seen in, the geeky kid who spends all his free time on the computer so he doesn't have to talk face to face. I've known of families that text-messaged one another or called on the cell rather than just getting up and walking into the other room. You probably have a ton of experiences similar to these. Why is it they hide? How are they making their lives more difficult?

And you yourself...do you "hide" things that are important to you? Do you hide emotions or passions? I knew a kid once who loved music and was very creative, but wouldn't share his music with anyone. Why would he hid something that was so fundamental to who he was?

If I were you, I'd try to set the essay up logically, like by age, by what is being hidden, or by location. You say writing is your weakness, but to make it good, just find a fundamental truth, give examples of that truth, and then think about what you've said. In your conclusion, literally tell what you have concluded. What did thinking and writing about this subject make you see, think, feel, or understand that you didn't realize before?

Good luck. Trust your own heart. Do practice and polish the grammar.

I believe that the majority of people construct barriers to keep themselves hidden from the world around them. These "barriers" are often referred to as "masks" or "defense mechanisms." There are various reasons as to why people construct these barriers as well as various ways these defense mechanisms are displayed to the world around them.

......the body of the essay should go into the reasons people have barriers and what are some of the defense mechanisms, such as being shy, using different emotions such as anger to keep people at a distance etc...

hope this helps you a little

Start with a rough outline:
Examples of some 'barriers' to use to support your thesis.
Examples of a few times you've used 'barriers' to avoid something or someone.
Make observations (in the lunchroom?) of people using 'barriers' to avoid others (like books, hair across face, etc.).
Finally, state your thesis - what is your conclusion after this period of research and observation?
Start writing a rough draft using your outline. Add to it often, edit, ask others for input (especially English teachers!).

Suggestions: Read some pocket books on Vocabulary Builders.

Some people paved away and constructed barriers around them especially if they have less words.

That essay question is yours to answer alone.
But do open up with an attention-gettter. Then explain why you wrote it, and then end by hitting key points you just mentioned.
(((...Makes me think that this is truly an essay that you are probably too lazy to come up on your own and it's probably due tomorrow morning. Lay off the pipe.)))
