what happened to the old days when you would trick or treat for hours and try to fill up two pillowcases before you went in for the night? When you would watch scary movies all night and made yourself too scared to go to bed? In my neighborhood no kids even came out to trick or treat at all!! has the pedofile neighbor put that much fear into the parents here? has the old women who put arsenic in her laffy taffy not been caught yet? really people when did trick or treating go that wrong? and How do you feel about it?

Luckily it is still popular where I live. However, most people I know that do not live in a nice area go to a nice area to take their kids trick or treating. Maybe they have a friend or relitive that lives in the nice area so they just go there. My kids actually are too old for trick or treating..now its just halloween parties with the high schoolers. But you have to understand, yes the people that have put bad things in candy and the ones that cause problems and shoot off guns ect in certian areas they have caused people to not want to take their kids out. When did this start? I started noticing it about 10 years ago where I live. Its scary. You dont want to take your kids out cause you dont want anything to happen. You worry that maybe someone put something in the candy. Of course from the time I was a kid my parents checked the candy before anyone was to have any. My kids grew up knowing you dont much on candy as you go along. You wait till you get home and get it checked unless it came from someone you know. Its a horrible thing that anyone has to be scared of a event such as halloween and everyone is so parinoid but that is life now adays and we have to do what we can by making sure kids dont go out alone and checking candy and to go in nicer areas instead of the bad.

Arsenic in the Laffy Taffy??? I remember razor blades in the apples.

Sadly our generation turned from being wild and carefree to PARANOID. We worry that things WE survived as kids are going to damage our kids, games we played are now thought of as being 'picked on' and if the little old lady down the street so much as sneezes in our direction or our kids we fear AIDS or MONO or other such stuff.

For the record, MY kid went trick or treating and had a blast, we have 2 pumpkins that she and her daddy carved (one with a dragon and the other looks like it's vomiting), we put out headstones and spiderwebs and now that she's in bed I'm gonna watch some scary movies and eat some popcorn.

Hope you have a BOOtiful HOWLoween

You know I am 52 and tonight I saw something that really lets you know where things are going. Parents were following their kids in a car and taking them to the best neighborhoods. Funny when did greed over take the joy of being scared if only for a night.

I agree I did not get one single kid. I always enjoyed it when I was little. I don't know whats happened to it. I mean I enjoy seeing the kids all dressed up as princesses and witches and so on. It's cute, and I enjoy giving out candy to them, I usually have about 15 kids or so, I live in one of the better areas of town to. I think people are getting more and more strange!! I use to love Halloween!! People should be safe and parents should go with their kids butt come on, let them go and have some fun!!!! =)

Oh- it's completely horrible!! Kids stopped trick-or-treating like at 8pm?!?!?! When I was a kid, we were out til like midnight- and people were STILL giving out candy!! And everyone actually PUT EFFORT into their costumes- last night kids were trick-or-treating in jeans and sweaters! Halloween has gone to waste!!

Our mission is clear: Let's bring the true Halloween back!!

LOL.

I truly agree with you, I was just talking to my husband about the same thing. When we were kids you could "Hear" Halloween, the kids laughing, Monster Mash blaring from your neighbors house, kids screaming and just having fun. We took out our daughters and you could hear a pin drop. Silence, we walked and found maybe 5 houses that had any decorations up, or any that really put their heart into it. I loved Halloween and now its sad, The generations will not know the "FUN" of it.

What happened to New York when you put a nickel in the little slot, and went into the subway, and saw signs that said, "No spitting allowed !!" Now, goodness knows, anything goes. A whole carload of nigras done scream and curse and fight tonite on the A train. And there wasnt a single policeman or supreme court justice on the train to see it. I asked a lady sitting down on the crowded train at midnight, "Do you know why they dont get arrested?" She looked at me with total innocence, and shook her head. I said, "Because there hasnt been a policeman here in 15-20 years." Well, thats one way to integrate, eh?

Basically when the news media had more reports of truly scary, gone-wrong type of stories which have really blown up in the 90s and 2000s.

i truly am sad to see what Halloween has become! this use to be my fav holiday as well. but i agree with some of your arguments the world has become a much scarier place! you just cant trust people anymore. ill be very sad if Halloween disappears in my life time. this will be the first year that i haven't dressed up. (except for when i was underway) there just doesn't seem to be anymore "spirit" with all these "sensitive" people its a sad sad world.
