Your doctor may use some new medications that can help bring up your Iron level. Worst case would be a blood transfusion. Your level can't stay at or below 7.2. It should be up around 12.5 to13. Your blood needs the iron to carry oxygen. without it it makes you very tired.

i have the same problem but mine is due to a fibroid. my doctor has me taking slo fe twice a day. its an iron pill that releases slowly throughout the day to maintain the iron levels. don't want to scare you but my doctor was about 2 seconds from having me get a blood transfusion.
you may want to eat more foods that are high in iron along with the pills. dark green vegetables and red meat should help...just make sure you are using healthy cooking methods for the red meat.

Do not worry about it, may be your doctor is calling u to find actual reason of iron deficiency because there are many factors like decreased absorption of iron and its utilization, folic acid deficiency or internal blood loss due to any reason. Include iron rich food in ur diet like liver, Fish and leafy vegetables such as Spanish. Taking these food along with citrus fruits because they contain Vitamin C that facilitates the iron absorption. Increase ur oxygen intake by doing mild to moderate exercise daily. Besides using the prescribed medicine u can use the iron supplementation with the advice of your doctor. Take your iron pills with orange juice. My mother had anemia and a specialist told her that. It helps the body assimilate the iron. Hope it helps you. Also you need to eat some red meat once in a while.

I am not a Doctor so this is my advice.
75% of what we worry about is needless.
Your doctor is doing her job, just continue to let her do so and meanwhile, talk with your Mom about your fears.
