Mine never became an outie. It depends on how you carry and how big you get. I carried like a basketball and gained 19 pounds, but everyone's body is different. Sometimes, if the baby is positioned just right, and the woman is petite, it will pop out, but usually returns to normal after birth. I only know of 1 person this has happened to, and it was her 3rd child, and she gained 40 pounds on her 5'8" 125 pound frame.

The shape of the belly button is from the overlying fat and skin, with the deep attachment holding the typical "innie" shape. During pregnancy your belly becomes distended (stretched, for lack of a better word) and the abdominal wall pushes out, which can change the shape of the belly button. For some women this makes their belly button shallow, but still an innie, and for some this makes their belly button "pop". For most women a popped out belly button will go away after pregnancy. Your belly button popping has absolutely NOTHING to do with how much weight you gain or don't gain, but has to do with how your uterus and baby are positioned.

With my son my belly button popped around 7 months (I gained 23 pounds my entire pregnancy with him), but it would only pop out when I was standing (and my baby and uterus were pushing forward on it) and would push itself back in when I was sitting down. I am almost 6 months pregnant with our second, and my belly button hasn't shown any signs of popping yet. It's different with every woman and with every pregnancy, but it's nothing to worry about either way.

It just depends on the person.. BUT right now I am 29 weeks pregnant and my belly button only pops out when my baby kicks really hard right behind it. My 6 year old daughter thinks it is SOO FUNNY when he does that. She talks to her brother and says do the trick again baby.

mine never went outie, just flat, and I think its because your skin is stretching so the innie gets pulled flat or pops out from the stretching.
