Why is Catholosism so powerful?

Question

Why was the graven images commandment removed and a commandment split in two to make the ten?
How come the pope is more powerful than the government? How can he decide that something that catholics couldn't do for years, is ok?
Why do we believe everthing that comes out of a priests mouth?
How can a normal man, which is what a priest is, forgive all of our sins?

I am Catholic, i was just asking for other peoples opinion. It's fantastic that your so certain about your beliefs. However you are not too conciderate when it comes to others beliefs. I am obviously not an athiest but you are offending those who are in your post. Perhaps your too DUMB TO REALISE THAT. There is no need to RAMB your beliefs down other peoples throats. They can make their decision themselves.

the pope is a servant "...those who are last shall be first." he never makes up new rules, he just clarifies for people who start doing things wrong.

no catholic believes everything that comes out of the priests mouth

"confess your sins one unto each other" and "whatsoever you bind on earth is bound in heaven..."

Catholicism is a powerful entity because it has a base of about seventeen hundred years of influence to draw from.
I don't see how they split the ten commandments as they are written in the bible for all to see; protestant or not but I guess you know or see something I don't.
The pope is more powerful than the government because the Roman Catholic Church is in every western nation on the planet and the parishes devote their allegiance to him more so than the nations government. Forty two thousand parishes in one country like the States and you can imagine the population that the High Church commands.
The Catholics have a catechism. It is an instruction book for Catholics on how to behave. In it the Pope is called the Christ's representative here on earth (erroneously in my opinion, but then I left the Catholic church so my opinion doesn't count with them) Having said that , it is believed that He embodies the very essence of the Christ. So he cannot be wrong. If he can't be wrong then he can change the rules any time he wants. Like it or lump it.
We don't believe everything that comes out of a priests mouth. That is why we have protestant denominations. We don't believe a priest is the end all and be all. Besides when I questioned them they couldn't answer half my questions with any strong authority at all so I left the church.
A normal man like a priest cannot forgive you your sins. He can forgive you for any tresspasses you place against him personally but he cannot absolve you of any sins. No man can. Only the Christ can do that.
I've been with my Lord Jesus for a long time now and it is still He that is the ultimate answer. He is the one who governs, and Jesus is the one who is more powerful than any government, and the Christ is the only one who can change things, and Jesus of Nazareth is the only man who ever spoke truthfully everytime he spoke through his mouth, no other man could, can or has.
Only Jesus can forgive and absolve us of our sins. Now then having said all that I think that you are going to find literally thousands and thousands of Christians in that denomination as in any other Christian denomination. But ...on the other hand you are going to find more Catholics, Baptists, Anglicans, and Presbeterians than Christians throughout the whole of the world.

Catholicsm is powerful because there are a lot of believers.
1 - Can't answer. Don't really know.
2 - The pope is probably more powerful than the government because the pope has many people, world-wide. The decision of the Pope is based on many steps. It cannot just be decided out of thin air.
3 - We believe things (but not all of us do) that come from a priest because they represent God.
4 - They forgive us through the power of God. They spread the Lord's words and help us.

I can answer more, but I am kind of busy. As for you people who can't accept that there are other kinds of religions and just have to make fun of other religions, HOLD YOUR MOUTH. If you can't learn to respect other religions, then don't expect the same from them. Poster named Rouge, what you have said is VERY immature. GROW UP.

The word is "CATHOLICISM". These questions have been asked so many times and always with the same answers. Why do you get so much pleasure in ridiculing the Catholic Faith.This will probably go in one ear and out the other . God's Mother Mary, has been appearing to people for a long time. She said "There is but one God and that people have enforced unnatural separation. One cannot truly believe,be a Christian,if he does not respect other Religions as well.YOU DO NOT REALLY BELIEVE IN GOD IF YOU MAKE FUN OF OTHER RELIGIONS."

So what are you ? an ATHEIST or are you a Christian that does not really believe in God ?

Already in the beginning God had elected Mary to her unique vocation in the scheme of salvation.Mary was conceived in the womb of Anna (Joachim and Anna)-Angels visited the aged barren parents.Mary was from the beginning "endowed with grace". (Kecharitomene) or in the more familar translation ",full of grace" (LK 1:28) To be full of grace is to be in the opposite condition from that of Original Sin. Now stop telling lies about Mary. You are offending her deeply,or don't you care? If the Pope says God is a Trinity then he is . He is Christ's vicar on Earth and as such cannot proclaim something that God would disagree with.That is why he has the "keys to the kingdom of heaven."God gives him that ultimate authority.Does the Bible tell you what Jesus and Mary have been telling us over the last 200 years? Mary is the Mother of God.He gave her that honour Himself,and ,no ,it is not in the Bible.Your Bible is redundant.God's and Mary's messages through recent Apparitions tell us what we should be doing.If you can't, at least, accept the possibility of these Apparitions you will remain ignorant and your Bible won't save you .Although Satan's 100 year control of the world has expired,he still has many followers,and i think you may be one of them.

Catholicism is a sham Christianity that only really came into existence in the 4th Century. It has so many misconceptions and teachings that cannot be proven from the Bible. It has held men in fear of Hell, a non-biblical teaching. The Bible clearly tells us the punishment for sin, imperfection, is death. It is not true that a loving God would torture or have people tortured after the penalty for sin has been paid ie death.
The Pope is not a descendant of Apostle Peter. Peter never even went to Rome. Just read the Biblical accounts. Mary was not the "Mother of God" she never claimed to be, Jesus never said she was and as a Jewess she could have been executed for blasphemy if she claimed that. Jesus never said he was God. He was God's son. Trinitarians may argue but scripturally there is no Trinity. Even their own Catholic Encyclopaedia admits it is a non scriptural teaching.
By holding people in fear, even trying to stop the Bible getting to people, they are rtesponsible for many of the worlds woes today. Only God through the sacrifice of Christ has authority to forgive sins and he can exercise that through Jesus himself. Please read for yourself. What does the Bible really say not what do the priests say.
