You could try meditation, you know breathing control, maybe take up yoga? Or you could try things like rescue remedy, which are natural herbs. I listen to my favorite music as that 'chill' stuff and meditative music don't do much for me but you could try them. Natural sounds like whales are suppose to work too.

Good luck with it, I've had panic attacks too, and they're not very nice :-)

An official health agency in the UK says that cognitive-behavioral therapy has more evidence behind it for treating panic disorder than medicine, and that especially good books like When Panic Attacks by David Burns can also be very effective. (Search "NICE anxiety" to see the report) The report does say, however, that choice of treatment should depend on the individual patient. Some people overcome panic very quickly. The thing to remember is that this is just a phobia. We're not afraid of fast heartbeat when we're running, and there's no reason to be afraid of it with an attack. When people come to see the attack itself as a nuisance, like a dizzy feeling that comes with a roller coaster ride, the attacks become less severe and less frequent, or they just go away. Trying to escape from the attacks is admitting that they're terrible. Be patient. Your sense of humor is your best friend. Dr. Burns is a very popular author of self help books for mood disorders. This is a brief summary of his advice for panic attacks: * Exaggerate your fears instead of running away from them. Try your hardest to "crack up." * If you're afraid of doing something silly in public, do something silly, on purpose. * Expose yourself to whatever you're afraid of instead of running away. * Keep a daily mood log and write down negative thoughts. Identify the distortions in your thinking and replace them with more realistic, positive thoughts. * Substitute reassuring, peaceful images for frightening daydreams. * Write a dialog with an imaginary hostile stranger who puts you down for feeling anxious. * If you are ignoring problems that need to be dealt with, get in touch with them. Confronting a problem you'd rather forget can free you from worry. I'll mention two treatments you probably won't need. Capnometry Assisted Respiratory Training, or CART, is also used for treating asthma. There's a phobia treatment called interoceptive exposure that teaches people not to fear the symptoms. Other things that might help - stress could precipitate anxiety and panic. Good stress reduction books: The Mindful Way Through Depression by the MBCT researchers and The Depression Cure by Ilardi

I agree with the deep breathing and the excercise advise. Homeopathy may be good if you find someone good that can get you the right formula.

I can recommend in addition to breathing and exercise to maek sure you are getting B vitamins. Sublingual B12 will help with your energy levels, B5 (pantothenic acid) is an anti stress vitamin that has given excellent results with panic/anxiety attacks. SO take a good B complex vitamin with additional B5 for a couple weeks and should be gone. You can also take the sublingual B12 if your energy is low which it probably is if you feel depresessed. Just follow the directions on the bottle.

I know other stuff to do but its more 'stuff I do' and not easily explainable on Yahoo ANswers.

edit....not sure who gave my answer thumbs down. its true panic attacks are physiological as well and taking the b5, b complex, b12, and for some ppl choline, you will strenghten the adrenals and eliminate panic attacks. Just try it before you try to judge.

proper sleep diet and exercise are key

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

While not specifically an alternative treatment approach... i was taught in nursing school to encourage recognition of "your" individual panic symptoms. That is I would encourage you to identify early those things that could possibly stimulate an attack and your symptoms in the early stages of an attack. You can use this information to recognize the potential attack and implement a plan in an attempt to prevent the panic.

It is important for people suffering this disorder to find methods that help them relieve the symptoms such as exercising, deep breathing, etc. I would also encourage practicing your method daily (even in the absence of anxiety). Frequent practice of a stress/panic reduction technique will allow you to better control those symptoms when it counts (an attack is in the early stages) and possibly help to reduce your panic enough to avoid the attack.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!

It's difficult to prevent panic attacks. If they are going to happen, they will. However, you can certainly try to reduce the frequency and intensity with PureCalm. For your depression, you can look into Anxius or Mindsoothe. I hope this works and please feel free to let me know how you get on.

This may seem a little strange but.....regular bathroom habits. Same time everyday if you can. Its a chemical thing apparently in some people and a full bowel can cause a poision to seep into the blood stream triggering the attacks.

The answer lies in not trying to 'prevent' the attacks ! Rather accept and 'go through' them, they will not kill you, only by facing can you overcome, not by trying to prevent or run away from them. It takes courage and is not easy, but acceptance IS the way.
