No. It must be a handoff or a backwards lateral for the 2nd recipient of the football to be allowed to throw it.

From the nfl rule book:

"An offensive team may make only one forward pass during each play"

A receiver can throw the ball forwards after catching it if two requirements are met:

1. He cannot be across the original line of scrimmage, or else any forward passing of the ball is considered and illegal forward lateral.

2. The quarterback had to throw the ball backwards to the receiver, meaning the receiver has to be farther back from the line of scrimmage than the quarterback was when he threw it. (If the QB was at the 50 yard line, the WR would have to be on his 49 or farther back in order to legally throw a forward pass).

man, some of the people who answer these questions better learn to read the entire question. Once the ball is thrown forward, it can only be lateraledsideways or backwards, regardless whether the original receiver was behind the line of scrimmage.

Geez!!!

ONLY if he receives the ball via a backwards pass, meaning he is behind the QB when he receives the ball (basically a long lateral). You can not do two forward passes.

Yes, he must catch the ball behind the line of scrimmage and must throw the ball from behind the line of scrimmage.

He can, technically, catch his own pass, so long as it's a forward pass.. It has happened, although rarely and usually when the pass was batted by a lineman right back into the QB's hands.. and as I recall, a QB 'caught' one of those batted balls several years ago and turned it into a touchdown..

yes he can as long as he is behind the line of scrimmage. it's no different than the old trick play of the running back handoff that turns into a pass back to the quarterback!

it can be thrown behind the line all the times they want as long as it goes behind them, but only one forward pass per play, all you want behind
