They're telling you it's bad for you because they care about you and they dont want you to die. Or it really bothers them.

That's how I feel. I know it's bad for my health, I don't need to be told that. I had several family members pass away from smoking, so I know first hand how it is. BUT, it is my choice. I do not smoke indoors, not even in my own home (I have a 1 month old, and I won't allow smoking near him), I do not smoke around any children, no matter what the age. I ask if my smoke is bothering anyone when I'm at a bus stop, or anywhere near a crowd. So I am a respectful smoker to the non-smokers, all I ask is that they respect my choice to be a smoker.

Ok so you know that it causes lung cancer and do you know about oral cancer and throat cancer and what about all the chronic lung disorders you can get besides cancer. Ok so you smoke outside and that is great for the people who live in your house with you and I am guessing since you don't smoke in the house you don't smoke in the car which is great. But the people who are telling you how bad it is for you are probably your family and friends. They love and care for you and do not want to see you get sick or suffer with something that you can correct now. Did you know that if you stop smoking now that in 7 years you will have healthy lungs again. Please stop for your family's sake obivously they love you alot to keep on about it.

But you really don't get it. You see, we all end up paying for those who smoke - one way or the other. Smoke gets in everything. So if you smoke in some public area and the smoke gets in the walls or the fabric at the place you smoked at, then somebody has to spend time, money, and materials removing the smoke. The people who live next door bought the house from smokers. They have been there for 5 years and are still trying to remove the remains from the smoke.
Next, lets say you die from cigarette smoking. That's fine, you chose to do so. But we other taxpayers end up paying money to keep you alive while you suffer. Really, for real - smoking really sucks. There is no reason at all so smoke, no reason. If you smoke you are not cool.
So, even if you say - hey man, let me smoke - I won't bother you, I'm cool around non-smokers. Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. We all end up suffering because you and other dipshits still smoke. I still have friends who smoke and I lay the same thing on them all the time. Wish you all could just stop. Take care, good luck on quitting.
And then I read the other answers. There are other smokers who obviously feel the same way. This is weird, you all don't get it, we who don't smoke really do not enjoy your cigarette smoke, at all. And like I wrote yesterday after you smoke it hangs around for years and years. Can you imagine if you had a friend who flatulated all the time what that would be like. That's smoking for us. And on top of all that it gets worses. Some of you smokers even had cute funny answers. Sorry, there is nothing funny about smoking. 400,000 people die every year in America alone from cigarette smoke, is that funny? Grow up, never cute and never funny. I've given up talking to smokers about it, just wish they could stop.
Our brilliant government even pays those tobacco farmers who don't make enough money growing tobacco. They keep them alive and thriving. We all know now that the tobacco industry places items in tobacco items that cause humans to become addicted more quickly. Roughly 25% of the teenagers who try tobacco are addicted within 2 days. C'mon - don't you all realize that this really sucks. Tobacco was really cool in the 1800s or before, but we don't need it anymore. I will be very glad when it's gone, completely gone. But I will always be friendly to those who do smoke, just don't want to smell it.

Because they're Nosey McNosersons that need to mind their own business.
I smoke a few cigs a day and when people see me smoking they always gasp "OH! I didnt know you smoked!" I usually come up with something snarky to say like..."well, you know....I have nothing invested in my 401K so I have to cut down the life expectancy a bit" or "Cancer isn't gonna catch itself" It's so shocking they are usually left speechless, or they laugh, either way I win.
My friend would tell fat people who told her not to smoke not to eat so much because obesity actually causes a shorter life than smoking.
You just need to come up with some come backs that will put people in their place.

Probably because they care about you and don't want to watch you get lung cancer and die. There are some people who I really care about that smoke and I worry about them every time they light a cigarette. Then I suffocate from the second hand smoke and I don't appreciate that.

If it's people who love you that are always telling you, it's because they care about you. A lot of time though, certain people want to feel like they're doing a good deed so that they can feel better about themselves. I hate cigarette smoke, but as long as it's not blowing in my face, I don't care what people do to their own bodies. Some people just love butting in.

Most of the time they just care about your health. All of the others are just being ignorant =). No one can make you quit but you.

Partly because they know that if you truly realized how bad it is for you, you would quit. Mostly because they want to do something good, and maybe they can be "the one" who saves you.
