Okay, here's this thing..Parents would tell their kids not to ever take candy from strangers..and yet during Halloween, they send their kids to people's houses to beg for free candy, while their parents can give their kids candy any time of the year.. What is up with that???

This is a holiday that was started by the pagans around 2000 years ago.

This is the definition for Pagan.

1. One who is not a Christian, Muslim, or Jew, especially an adherent of a polytheistic religion in antiquity.
2. Offensive.
1. One who has no religion.
2. A non-Christian.
4. A hedonist.

This is an evil celebrated tradition that has carried on to way to long. It does not matter what you dress up as you are still participating in this UN-Christian like activity. I just want to enlighten you all some. Please do not be fooled by this deceptive tradition & instead learn a little bit about the tradition & you might change your mind as well. That's all I have to say. My family refuses to participate in this activity.

As believers, we are called to "Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil. [1 Thesalonians 5:21-22] Who can deny that virtually all of the symbols of Halloween are evil? Witches, monsters, ogres, vampires, ghosts, ghouls, goblins, devils and demons all portray evil. Christians are to "... have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them." [Ephesians 5:11]

All the best to you.

Because it's the one night of the year where you can play dress up and mom and dad DON'T yell at you to stop pretending and you CAN accept candy from a total stranger (noone said you had to eat it).

As with anything there are rules to follow...don't go in the house with them, don't eat the candy til it's checked, don't go up to a house that has no lights, carry a flashlight, have FUN.

For those that have a problem with Halloween, I suggest you turn off the lights, rent a movie and don't answer the door.

BTW, my kid made out with a BIG bag of candy.

I am so sorry your parents never let you have fun, Wow we even go to churches for trick or treating. We have a lot of fun with our children and it really SUCKS people do not get into this holiday like they did when I was a kid. I am sorry you think of this as begging for free candy. I do not even hand out candy, we give out bubbles, pencils, and other fun things for the kids. Yea we dress up, that is the fun part of Halloween.

Didn't you trick or treat when you were a little kid? I might be too old to trick or treat, but I still love candy.

In respect to parents telling their kids not to talk or take candy from strangers...well I think its one night out of the year where that is OK, w/ either Parental supervison if too young, or just instilling good values and having trust in our older ones - who are probably toilet papering houses and egging their friends, lol...at least that is what they did back when i was in HS! The boys mostly. :P

Because like anything else, it's OK if Mom and Dad are there, but not when they're alone. My son is allowed to take something from a "stranger" ONLY if we're with him and say it's OK, and he knows this. It's the same when it comes to talking to strangers.
I don't give my son candy any time of the year. In fact, he only has candy at the holidays. We also go to the "safe" trick - or - treating at our local mall, and to a few of our neighbors' houses. I highly doubt the sweet octogenarian next door who goes to our church will suddenly go mad and put razor blades in my son's licorice.
You sound like loads of fun. I'll bet your house gets egged every year. Were you this boring and grumpy when you were married?
Oh, and to the person who said it's an "evil" and "unchristian" holiday, explain to me why we celebrated it at the Christian school I attended as a child, and pretty much every church around here has a Halloween party. Yeah, that's what I thought.

Many children, as well as older people, think that it is a fun and exciting night to get dressed up in a costume and have fun with your friends. Plus, small children view traveling door to door, never knowing what you will recieve, as much more interesting than just having candy handed to them.

What's up with that is that it doesn't hurt the kids, and they have a good time. I don't see anything wrong with that. =)

Because it's a fun thing to do. People should really lighten up....it's a fun day for kids to dress up as their favorite characters or whatever and have a little bit of fun. Why are adults trying to take childhoods away from kids these days? Geez....let them be little!

Theres nothing wrong with letting the kids have fun and if ppl decide to hand out candy to them , well kudos to them as well. Nobody is forced to do it. It's fun.

Because:
It's free,
It's tradition,
and the parents remember what it was like....
The parents enjoy the time to themselves while the kids enjoy getting candy their parents wouldn't normally buy them! Fun fun.

well, having something without effort isn't fun.
my mom throws coins on the floor for us to grab, and snatching it from somebody is a thrill. it's fun. it's fun to earn something with hard work than to have it by doing nothing.
i guess that's same with trick or treating....

anyway, the kids asking for goods have costumes. that is to pretend their unknown creatures. if a creature would come to your door to as for treat, you would give the creature teat to be safe from something bad. ( a trick)

i think they lost the true meaniings of that.... they're doing it for fun.

yet as i said, earning is different from receiving without working.

so... it think it's really up to them....... let them do it... you won't lose anything right?

not unless the candy's poisoned and they'd die.....

:D think positive!
