when i start my 95 corolla, the RPM's go up to past 2 when they normally go to one. if you leave the car running, it takes about 8 minutes to get the meter back to 1. i have had this thing checked, and nothing. its NOT cold yet here (60's and 70's). no vacuum leaks, no sensors, the car passed emmisions with flying colors, the check engine light is on. anyone know?

If your check engine light is on, it is probably a sensor that needs to be replaced, since your engine is F.I.

I would find out what that check engine light is on for. 1 of 10 times the light comes on for no reason. I didn't think they made corollas with standard transmission. I would check the other gauges, it could be electrical. Improper grounding will throw everything off by a little bit.

It's normal. The car idles quicker during
warm-up to prevent stalling.
Used to be done with a choke, now the
engine management system does it.

Alright, explain that again. You had it checked , the check engine light is on and it showed nothing wrong and passed emissions?

THE LIGHT -----ALWAYS---- COMES ON FOR A REASON

You need to find a better mechanic.

its electrical...keep in mind the car is 12 years old..the first usually to go is the tach..then the fuel meter,,sad but true if its fuel enjected...it sounds like your tps..throattal position sencer..it tells your ems ...computor... where your choke and other settings are at the moment..at start up. messup..can.or have you ever tried resetting the ems?
most cars are easily done my disconnecting the batt for a few seconds...pending you have a check engin light

sounds like you need to change some air filters!! the car is running fast to pull in enough air to keep itself running,, after it warms up and idles down it needs less oxygen,,,
