I understand you being embarrassed. I grew up dirt poor. If I was lucky, my mom made $9000 a year (which was low even 25 years ago). We couldn't afford anything. If you wear decent enough clothes that you aren't embarrassed by them and you have enough food on the table to worry about it if a friend comes over and wants to eat lunch with you... don't sweat it. Anybody who doesn't understand isn't worth your time anyway. My best friend growing up was as poor as I was, and neither one of us really cared.

Well, if you are poor while growing up, you can be that much more proud of yourself when you become successful.

No matter how poor you are, there is always somebody worse off.

AND no matter how cool the rich kids think they are, there is always somebody richer who will make them feel stupid.

Rich kids have a real disadvantage in the things that matter in life, even tho they have a lot of advantages that are visible. It is almost impossible for rich kids to become moral and just adults. I personally have never seen it happen. The rich are all fascists nowadays. The old days of rich people who tried to make the world a better place are gone. Now Mitt Romney, a rich man, born rich, wants to be president--not to make the world better, but to make his friends richer. Of course, he will burn in Hell, and he cannot escape it. But YOU still have a chance to become a good person.

I think you are being too sensitive. Just because a person lives in an apt doesn't mean that they are poor. Some people just can't get their act together to save up money to buy a house because some people don't know how to save; they'd rather spend their money on 'stuff.'

Some people live in apts because they don't want to bother with upkeep or deal with unexpected expenses so that they have more money to do things they want to do.

If your friends want to know why you live in an apt, give them one of the above reasons.

I hate when people can't even write clearly enough for others to understand what they are trying to say.
