Sulfur colored light floods my windows and my back yard so I can't enjoy the natural light of the moon and stars. Does anyone have any ideas I can present to him that would allow him to enjoy his light rom his side, but block the light from my own yard?

Some cities have ordinances regarding this. It is actually defined as "light trespass". It's hard to enforce in residences, but is strictly enforced in commercial areas. The question is, is the problem the glare from the bulb or is it the amount of light spilling over to your area? If it is glare, all you can do is put up some kind of visual barrier. If it is light spillover, you may have the legal right to have the neighbor reduce the light level. I don't know, this is a fine line because you want to keep good relations with your neighbor but you also want them to understand that the light is a problem for you.

The ordinance that bahbdorje is describing above is called the "Dark Sky" ordinance, which is also in effect in much of Texas here. Lights have to be "full cut-off" so they don't shine more than 90 degrees to vertical.

My first thought is a BB gun. Its how I feel about some of these light out here in "rural" Cali. I'm lucky the lights are far enough away not to flood my yard.

You could talk to him abnout shading the fixture. And maybe a tall hedge or tree... It is a tough thing.

There is a law here that bulbs must be shaded so they do not shine more up than horizontal. See what the regulations are in your place.

So, what does this neighbor need a big light for anyway? That is my question. Even when they are not using it they just waste the electricity. Silly.
