Aha! I am a Civil War Historian (armature at least) so I find this a very interesting topic to reply to.

The south was pro-slavery, as you said, but to answer your question: the Kansas-Nebraska act, as you may or may not know, was basicaly a question on whether or not the Kansas area (inhabited mainly by whites until the mid-1850's) would side with the north or the south.

Because many people wanted it to become a nothern state, and many people wanted it to become a southern state, gruesome battles broke out between the factions, giving the territory the nickname, "Bleeding Kansas" due to all of the violence.

It wasn't until Januaray 29, 1861 did Kansas finally side with the free states (Union).

I hope that answered your question even thought I fully don't understand what it is you wanted. :-)

Another Civil War amateur here.

The Kansas-Nebraska Act

"Senator Stephen A. Douglas of Illinois in 1854 presented a bill to organize the territories of Kansas and Nebraska. Southerners in Congress voted for it for two reasons: it declared the Missouri Compromise inoperative becuase it was inconsistent was the Compromise of 1850, and left it to the settlers to decide by vote whether the territories would be free soil or slave. This was the theory of "popular sovereignty."

The bill was approved May 30, 1854, by President Franklin Pierce, who then named a proslavery governor of Kansas. The hatred of slavery led to violent outbreaks, and bitter factional fights started when the proslavery men adopted the Leocomptoon Constitution for the proposed state of Kansas. Eventually Senator Douglas repudiated it and the free soil party won. The controversy over the the Kansas-Nebraska Act spilt the Democractic and Whig parties and helped form the new Republican party (Feb. - July, 1854)."

Another reason why slavery led to the outbreak of the Civil War.

whilst i grow to be with the army, I directed a television show at feet. Riley that grow to be an interview with a "Buffalo soldier". We suggested all varieties of historic matters that on the subject of feet. Riley (Kansas) -- with him in character. So, why do not you "interview" Steven Douglass after the valuable (yet exceptionally fought over) passage of the bill? Get a pal to play Douglass.
