just about the only time in recorded history that Indians weren't killing each other.....or Parthans or Sikhs or Iranians.......was when India and what is now Pakistan were under British rule.

A politically incorrect statement for sure, but also an inconvenient truth.

there's also that the Brits introduced the concepts of sanitation, education and the rule of law.......not to mention burning widows alive at funerals wasn't really the thing to do..........

Benefits to who? For India, there really wasn't much benefit. You could argue that the English introduced western engineering and administration, but that was kind of a mixed blessing.

Really the only benefit, and it was really an accident, was that India was part of the British Empire when the Japanese attacked in WW2. This might seem like a disadvantage, but really the Japanese would have wanted their land either way. As part of the British Empire, they were defended as tenaciously as any other British possession. This also led to the deal that finally freed them from English rule: You help us beat the Japanese, and afterwards we'll grant you independence.

I answered this two weeks ago; I assume for someone else who couldn't form their own opinions based on the data.

I have opinions, but in this matter they aren't important. As I said to the other person, ask an Indian.

For opinions on British rule in general read anything dealing with the revolutionary war, or ask an Irishman. I think that in most cases the benefits were outweighed by the disadvantages.
