The white pills are reminder pills. They have no active drug in them. You won't start your period on the first day of a white pill. It all depends on the person. I usually started my period on the 3rd or 4th white pill. I personally never took the white pills. Continue on with the pack. Don't get off schedule

The white pills do have some iron in them but it is not really what counts.
The white pills are for spacing, to help you keep track of when to restart the yellow pills. You should always start a new pack on the same day of the week, every 4 weeks.
SO, if you started the pills on, for example, Thursday, you will always start a new pack on a Thursday. Notice this is a day of the week, not a date.
If you do not want to take the white pills, don't. But daily take out a white pill and throw it away. Otherwise, the white pills and careful packaging is being wasted.
Last note. It is common and normal to miss a period or have such a low flow as to seem to miss a period while you are on any birth control pill. Don't worry about it. SO long as you are sure you have taken the pills correctly.

I don't know specifically for Yasmin, but are you sure the white pills contain iron, as far as I know, all other birth control "white" pills are just duds so you don't get out of the habit of taking the pills. I would assume they don't contain iron, because too much can be bad for you, and if you are supplementing enough with your diet, the extra iron could be unhealthy. They usually perscribe iron pills specifically and separately to birth control pills.
In addition to this, since the white pills are duds, they do not need to be taken for your period to come, you can skip them - as long as you wait the same amount of days as you have white pills til you start taking the yellow ones again.
If you continue to take yellow pills with no break, you will skip your period, as the pills contain hormones that control it. If you do this for a month it is fine (I know people who do it purposely to skip periods if they're going on holiday or something), but I wouldn't recommend it for long periods of time.
Taking the white pills does not make your period come, it is the discontinuation of taking the yellow ones. If you don't get it right away that's ok, it is possible for it not to start exactly on schedule, especially if this is your first time taking them.
I also recommend not taking birth control pills at all because they are not necessary / healthy in my opinion. My period has never been the same since I took them (for 3 months).
I agree with the above posts to follow the directions, and ask for advice from your doctor who knows what he/she is talking about rather than some strangers online. But I tend to disagree with doctors prescribing the pill so easily.

Keep taking one pill each day. Take the first white one the day after the last yellow one. You will generally get your period 72 hours after the last yellow tablet. The pills control when your period happens. Your period does not control which pill you take. When you finish the white pills start a new packet of active pills, even if you haven't started bleeding yet, or even if you haven't stopped bleeding yet. Just keep taking one pill each day, no matter what.

Follow the directions specifically given to you. If you are supposed to take 1 week of the white pills and then go on to another pack then just follow the regiment as such regardless of your period. If you are concerned contact your physician and they should be able to let you know what you should do.

refer this question to your DOCTOR or ob/gyn. They are the professionals. Best to speak with the doc who put you on the pill.
