How the hell did the North Face become such a fashion symbol, when its just a fleece coat with a few shapes on it that keeps you warm. I dont know if this is only a Midwest trend. Its been going on in Michigan since I was in high school about ten years ago and its STILL the only fleece people will buy..

Well, with the lack of a small thing called originality, North Face has like, taken over.
All the guys' backpacks in my school are North Face
&& pretty soon in Winter, it's all the types of coats I will see.
However, I'll be in my Steve Madden coat or my Peacoat, so yeah.
I live in NYC by the way && I'm just 14.
If it's been around for so long, imagine ten years from now!!!

No one has actually answered the question! I think it is just follow-the-leader comformist mentality at the extreme.
The marketing people are very shrewd and know exactly how this works.
The price is purposely set high at first and make it seem cool and elitist so the few rich snobs will buy it first. Then it will trickle down to the average people when peer pressure sets in.
The geeky girl on college will desperately need to het the same jacket as the cool girl in school.
Just in time, Marshall's will have them at a discount. Phew!
Meanwhile, we have a population of ultimate Conformists who are idiot pawns who bow to their Corporate Overlords,

It's just a name, you feel that you look sharp when you wear it, that comfort that you will find in regular brands. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against it. If you wear brand names, it's such a matter of self indulgence. Honestly speaking, sometimes I go for the brand too.

Probably because they keep you warm and its easy to put on and goes with whatever .I think North Face is popular everywhere these days.

ya know thats funny b/c i was thinking this exact same thing the other day...I live in WI and it seems like all i see is Northface fleeces, jackets, backpacks....Its crazy!

for some reason
they have special fleece that keeps you reallly warm.
and they look nice, and they last a long time.
but its in the east too, i live in VA and its everywhere here.
