Every time I hear "first impressions" I think of Linus in the Peanuts cartoon strip. He said he only polished the front of his shoes because he cared what people thought of him when he went into a room, but he wouldn't polish the back of his shoes because he didn't care what they thought of him as he left.

Not as important as the formation of a well rounded character. Due to a myriad of circumstances first impressions can sometimes be misleading but if a right character is formed in the person then the proper impression is made no matter the initial perception. We should strive first to form good and commendable characters and the first impression will take care of themselves.

Extremely importance, but just as important as the last impression.
Ever play the game of having someone read you a long list of words? Usually, the first couple and the last couple words are all that you remember. The first impression is call Primacy effect and the last impression is Recency effect. Everything in the middle is often forgettable (unless you've photographic memory.)
So yeah, always always make a great first and last impression!!

First impressions are extremely important
For example:
Two people go into a job interview. One is dressed in a nice tailored suit and tie. The other is dressed slovenly.
The first, answers the interviewer with short spotted sentences and begins every one with a dirty word.
The second is polite and waits until the intervier is finished with his questions before answering.
Who gets the job?
The second person. Why because despite his appearance it is how he uses his words. The interviewer's first impressions of him as a polite and courteous gives her the impression that he will do the same in the job.

Pretty dang important. If someone has the impression of a sloppy pig you won't want to get to know as you would a person that looks neat and tidy. But impressions can be misleading and a pretty person may be pretty mean. So I am careful about impressoins.

They are very important. In fact they are critical to a person's safety. The first impression often clues a person in as to whether or not they should fear something or someone.
Other than that, the first impression is all you have until you delve deeper. Sometimes the first impression makes it impossible to make any further impression.

there is an old saying.. if you dress like a bum, you look like a bum. If you look like a bum then you will act like a bum.. if you look like a bum and act like a bum.. you're a BUM. Are first impressions important? You bet.. even a bum can make a good impression if he is a good bum.. so whether a person is a bum or a scholar.. they need to be the best at what they are.. and that will allow you to make a good first impression..

i'm pretty intuitive overall so first impressions are very important to me. they do "make or break" the difference in whether or not i'd like to spend time or otherwise invest my interest in a person, or as well as a place or thing.
