I am currently attending film school in Chicago (freshman). I wsa reading up on a lot of my favorite filmmakers and a lot of them never went. Is it a waste of money or do I get valuable lessons?

Yes. I think the greatest thing you can get is the connections and internships... it certainly smooths the transition into the industry.

You definitely are in the right place! There is more competition in your field now that any time in the past. You need all the best teaching you can get. Go to every guest speaker, every extra learning opportunity you can find. Don't waste even one second of your time there. You won't be sorry. It says a whole lot about you that you could even get into the school!

Some of the great filmmakers were visionaries and dreamers. There weren't film schools to go to. Good luck, and make films I just HAVE to go see.

You can know all of the teaching you want to and not get anywhere in film because you don't know people. It might be a waste, might not be, but personally I wouldn't spend all of that $$ on a film degree.
