Its amazing how they pack all that stuff under the hood now adays. Not so long ago I remember crawling in under a hood with a friend to work on the motor.

They are a big pain to work on, I have, the scars to prove it, and they just get worse every year. Being an automotive tech. these days is a frustrated career. It's a constant learning process. It makes me think that car manufactures engineers are monkeys with crayons

Because if you didn't have those 5 other parts holding together for that 1 part, then you wouldn't have a vehicle...You would just have a part. Thats one of the downfalls to having a vehicle. If someone doesn't like it, they can always go buy a bicycle. :)

Otherwise, I advise getting to know your car, mechanically, electronically, etc. That way, if something breaks, it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg for labor to fix it, because your own labor is free.

They made them small to satisfy you young guys then added all kinds of fancy stuff that isn't really needed and that's why you can't get at anything. The old Mustangs are a dream to work on. Very little in the way and they're beautiful looking cars.

Cars are becoming more complex to work on, this is because car makers do not want people working on them at home. Coolant, grease and oil can be considered hazardous materials, plus they can sell more parts. That's why they put everything in hard to reach areas I believe

Government safety, emissions, and fuel economy regulations. And of course the manufacturers want all repairs done at the dealerships, so they try to make it difficult for independent shops and do-it-yourselfers to work on their vehicles.

My Dad is so frustrated w/ cars, he always says he'd like to go back to the "horse & buggy days". I don't know about that though.
