I've seen a lot of posts about similar things, but nothing seems to give the answer.

I've had a sensation that there's something in my throat, but it won't move. I've tried so much... Drinking a large amount of water in small bursts, gargling, etc. I've even gone as far as putting my finger down my throat to see if anything's there. (My gag reflex is a bit odd).

I haven't done anything out of the ordinary either. Could it just be an infection or something? or something more sinister?

Hi and thanks to the first two.

I will have to try that bread and water thing. I have tried that, but with just vegetables. So, I'll give it a shot tomorrow.

yeah! it's really bizarre. I had an illness when I was a child where I couldn't stop being sick. Since then, I have been able to stick my fingers there with no problems. It doesn't hurt, but it feels a little uncomfortable at times. I've had it for a couple of day now, and I did have a pre-made fish pie... so it is possible that could cause it...

Just in case though, are there any other thoughts?

Get a sono of your thyroid, it may be enlarged and (I speak from exp.) it gives a sensation that it takes more of an effort to swallow saliva! Check it out!!!

Well, if you can't see anything or feel anything with your finger (how you managed not to throw up I don't know) and you still have that feeling....by the way, does it hurt or just feel like something's sitting there? Do you have any difficulty breathing?....if the answer to those is yes, I would just recommend going to the doctor. I know it might be scary, but really, that's the only way you're going to find out if there is something or nothing to worry about.

First, try eating a cracker or piece of bread followed by a beverage. This usually pushes down anything that's stuck, like a fish bone or something. I f you still feel the feeling, try putting your mind on something else, like visiting a friend or something. If you become so preoccupied that you forget the weird feeling, then it's nothing. When we focus on things, they always feel worse, especially at night. When we re-direct our focus, we feel better. when you're sick and tired of it, go to the Dr. and have him look. If he says there's nothing there, then get busy with other things and the feeling will go away. I had a friend who choked on a piece of pizza and for weeks felt like there was still something stuck in her throat. She lost tons of weight because she wouldn't eat -- afraid she would choke. Finally her Dr. sat with her and forced her to eat and she was fine. True story.
