I mean cummon yeh ok the media can help create people such as celebrities & help to catch criminals obviously through their world wide reports etc but don't you think they're going to far just for the sake of a story? they are ruining peoples careers not to mention thier lives over exaggerating thier reports and stories just to earn extra cash! I mean just look at the Diana Princess of Wales incident I think the papparazzi where most definately to blame, yes the driver may have been intoxicated and over the legal limit! But cummon very person deserves that right to thier privacy and I can understand peoples frustration to avoid media attention. Extreme Media attention for illlegal puposes I can understand if there is a serious crime being investigated but not something like the Princess of Wales dining out with a loved one for example! It has caused her life to prematurely come to an end! The media can build you and easily destroy you that's gotta be wrong surely!

Without a doubt the law needs revision. How this can be acheived though is beyond me. We live in such a media induced state. Everything seems so unreal and so impersonal. Even the footage of wars or the twin towers, while moving us all to tears, seem so unlifelike..despite the fact that these items of news involved real people suffering real pain and loss. The thought of the papparazzi taking pictures of Diana as she died sickens me...yet unbeleivably some of those pictures were sold???! Something needs to be done to bring humanity back so there is nolonger any demand for such images.

Hi again.... Just come back to add to my reply... The papers this morning appear to be covered in the picture of Heather Mills Mcartney following a recent interview on tv. Now here is a classic case where the media is hounding a person beyond beleif. Think for a moment what your views are with regard to this lady... Then remember that any feelings evoked are probably influenced by the media negative coverage of her, since none of us actuallly know her (well i know i dont). Here is a woman extremely ill, currently in pain both, physical and emotional, battling her way through an immensely stressful time in her life (a divorce) and all in the public domain with no means of exscape and little chance of respite. Whatever this woman has done in the past, and frankly it surely is of no importance, she surely doesnt deserve this. The picture of the front page of a number of tabloids showed an angry woman ranting at the photographer....and who can blame her? However this image is designed to influence us. To make us believe that she is a nasty piece of work. For myself, I saw a woman living on her nerves, on the edge perhaps of a total breakdown. The journalists click gleefully away, oblivious to the damage they are doing, whilst this woman slowly disintergrates into a gibbering wreck. All the time lining their pockets. I cant help but feel that if they dont back off this woman soon she might go over the edge.
Someone earlier in this thread said that if media attention cooled on our celebs, would they still be celebs? Back in the golden age of cinema, the private lives of the great classics of the day were a mystery. Its only now that we are learning of their secret lives... Did it make them any less celebrities? I would say no. If anything the lack of knowledge only added to their apparent glamour and mystic. Also I would say it should be talent that makes a celeb, not what they did last week at the local club!!! Not knowing about those former stars made them special. Too much knowledge it seems can be very damaging when it comes to our 'idols'. Both to ourselves and more especially them!

Yeah you could have more strict laws, but will celebrities be celebrities anymore? I mean I agree with you, the margin does need to be lowered but the celebrities almost always love the attention. Who would they be if the papparazzi didn't boost their publicity.

In cases like britney spears, princess diana, paria hilton, and etc. their personal lives should be kept private especially if there are kids involved but sometimes the media does go to far.

On the contrary, it is the people in average society who read the magazines, mimic the hairstyles and clothes, tune in to the news updates, and boost the sitcom ratings. So I don't believe you can just start with the papparazzi b/c its a cycle not a source, you'll have to break the cycle first to find a solution.

They should get jobs so they don't have to stalk people. I think the papparazzi business is out of hand. We watched in fear as Princess Diana died, and every time the tube turns on, now Brittney is being more than just mobbed...she's being harrassed.
I think they all ought to get themselves jobs, hand their cards to SAG and called up when they are "invited" to do stories. Celebs are people too. They deserve their privacy just as much as you and I.
For those celebs who want the added papparazzi mobiles breathing down their backs...it should be a choice. If a celeb drives over their toes or closes a window on their arms, the celeb should not have to be held liable.
If a papparazzi does something stupid to get a pic or story, it is their own fault.

A lot of people court the paps as a means to an end.Sometimes they then wish they hadnt, and as long as there is reality tv shows and an excess ammount of books to fill, they will be there.Again dont forget The DUI And the strange route being taken that night.I can understand your feelings towards someone like Dianna but is it going to get an unhealthy obsession, and are people really concerned for the boys,or is it something or somebody they really are angry against

When it comes to the paparazzi and other news people they are nothing but liars and news hounds looking for a story to filled with nothing but lies and a paycheck. Then the media eats it up like a dog at the water bowl. This country would be alot better off if the reporters were given jail time.

In some ways I agree but most times the person has courted the press especially when trying to make a name for themselves and pics of celebs drunk and falling over are pretty funny but pics of someone in their pj's putting out the bins is just naff.Or when Brittney shaved off her hair are a bit sad.

Money is the bottom line here. The media outlets will do everything they can to compete. The only answer is that people that buy that crap find some sort of collective morality and quit spending money to support the agencies that benefit from it.

Yes there should be stricter controls. The general public also has some of the blame after all they are the ones buying the tabloids & magazines.
