Ok so I've heard prolly 10 different reasons why ppl think the world will end in 2012. But my question is....whats the hype? I mean why do ppl think that an alignment of the center of the galaxy and our sun would end anything! It makes no sence and just doesn't add up!

The hype started when someone said the Mayan calendar ended in 2012. It doesn't really. It just comes to the end of a major cycle, kind of like our calendar did when it turned over from 1999 to 2000. After that the claims got more and more outrageous.

Somehow, I highly doubt that the Mayans were capable of predicting doomsday while the more advanced civilization today cannot. 12 as God's number? We are still here despite all the 12's that have passed. 12/12/1212? 1912? Why would 2012 be any different? If something as significant as the end of our world is to happen any time soon, we will begin to feel changes days, months, maybe years before it ever happens.

The hype is that people love to spread doomsday stories.
And of course it doesn't add up because its all hogwash.

Remember the hype around Y2K? Nothing happened then. There have been all kinds of "armageddon" stories since Nostradamus (probably even earlier). And none of them happened.

It would seem that some people feel the need to try to frighten other people with something that can't be controlled, can't be avoided.
I think its just a serious emotional disorder in those people and they really should seek professional mental help.

nostradamus supposedly foresaw this event and painted a picture about it. He phrophesized that the antichrist (the 3rd for him) will come into power. His first antiChrist was Napolean, then Hitler and his third unlikely candidate depending on who you believe is(drumroll please) "ladies and gentlemen I give you ol Nostradamus' 3rd candidate...LLETS GET rready to rrumble with

Osama Bin Laden. yep thats ol nostradamus' 3rd and final antichrist. I saw the history channel or discovery the other night. The mayan calendar ends in 2012...bad news if you are Mayan, I guess you will just wink out of existence. But wait there is hope. ARE YOU OF MAYAN DESCENT? do you fear the year 2012? ARE YOU AFRAID YOU WILL BE TERMINATED? NOT TO WORRY..RELIEF IS ON THE WAY
YOU CAN HAVE YOUR GENETIC CODE REPLACED YES THATS RIGHT REPLACED FOR ONLY 12 EASY PAYMENTS OF 63,000 US DOLLARS. NOW YOU CAN BE THE RACE YOU HAVE ALWAYS DREAMED OF ETC ETC
I guess the hype is all the alrmists needing something to be alarmed about. and if it really was going to happen then why arent more people just going crazy and doing whatever in the hell they want? I mean cosmically speaking, if the world ends in 2012 then why cant I say to hell with going to work tomorrow? wow. some people.

Supposedly, That's when the Mayan Calendar ends.

Right.

The world was also supposed to end...

Year 2000 aka Y2K
April 6th, 2006 aka 666
December 22nd(?), 2012
and in 2060 said Issac Newton.

the point is that the Mayans were advanced enough to forecast things (exact things like eclipses) 1000 years before they happened. if they think the world is going to end, then maybe we should give them a listen and look into that.

and currently, scientists believe the earth will go through a polar switch- where the earth turns over, and kills everything with extreme weather based on the poles changing places.

they also believe it has happened before.

i am not saying it will or will not, just that maybe we should look into it.

Sister, you've hit the nail on the head. Good to see someone questioning it out of common sense, rather than accepting it at face value.

Well, in Christian beliefs 6,6,6 is the Devil's number, God's is 12,12,12. So you may think 12/12/2012 would be the "Day of Reckoning", "The 2nd Comming of Jesus", ither way you say it the time has come. Thats what I think.
