I feel that way sometimes too. I talk to my husband about my feelings and I let him take care of the baby so I can get some rest. Talk to your doc ASAP! It's scary to think that your body can take over your mind and you can actually start having delusions and hallucinations and you won't know you're losing it until it's too late. I've warned everyone around me to keep an eye on me post-partum because of the risks. There are some anti-depressants that are safe during breastfeeding. But in the long run, a happy healthy mommy is better for your baby than breastfeeding. In the long run DONT BE HARD ON YOURSELF! Being a new mom is hard and you need to take care of yourself first before you can take care of your baby. It may be months before you can get over the post-partum. Don't be afraid to ask for help. I've had to bite the bullet and ask my mother-in-law to come over and do laundry and vaccuming. It made a huge difference in how I felt recovering. Good luck!

In order to get over it, you have to talk to a doctor about it. But there is a difference between baby blues and postpartum depression. Baby blues: you're sad when you should be happy, etc. Postpartum depression: you feel like you don't want anything to do with your baby, things like that. Postpartum depression is much more extreme. If it's just baby blues, it will fade with time, but if it's postpartum depression, you need to see a doctor.

What you are feeling is quite normal for new mothers. One of the best things to do is take breaks. If you have a trusted family member or friend close by invite them over while the baby is sleeping and talk. Tell them just how you are feeling, I am sure they will understand. Maybe they can watch the baby for you once a week for a little while so you can get out of the house. Don't ashamed nor embarrassed, most women feel this same way after giving birth. And believe it or not, but this will pass in time.
Good Luck and Congratulations on your new baby!

Yes, most antidepressants are safe.
You can take:
* Zoloft - being the best
* Paxil
* Celexa
* Effexor
* Prozac- being still good, but at the bottom of the list
You should NOT take Lithium while nursing.
Good for you for seeking help. I should have with my second baby and I never did. I regret that choice.

Talk to your doctor, s/he will know what antidepressants are safe during breastfeeding and will generally just know what to do about postpartum.

consult your doctor about this. you will not get over it without help and support. If you're brave enough to say it on the web, ring your doctor and tell him/her now!
