Pro bono assistance is usually not available for cases of slander and defamation. When attorneys work pro bono (for free), it is usually due to 1) they are assisting with cases that are an enormous strain on the courts because a lot of people will file even with a lawyer [like divorce, guardianship, custody], 2) it is a criminal matter and the public defender's office has a conflict and cannot represent the defendant, 3) significant constitutional issues are involved that need protection, or 4) the facts are so compelling that the lawyer feels there is a strong possibility of winning the case in a reasonable timeframe.

Slander and defamation are among the most difficult cases to prove and don't really fit into one of these categories.

Lawyers got to eat too. But you can try finding someone by calling the bar association in your area and asking for a referral,.

depending on your financial situation, you should call Legal Aid and ask if you qualify for a FREE attorney.
