I always wanted to buy a Newt but, I dont know where to go? I live in Cleveland,OH. I have a Turtle, and seven Gold Fish. Dont warry about the turtle, i got a borber, and good hidding spots under water to keep it way from the other fish.

Newts are notorious climbers. No borber, unless secure to the top of the enclosure will keep a newt from entering the turtles side and becoming food. You can usually get newts at your local pet shop, if they dont have them they can usually order them for you. FYI: some newts contain toxins so do your research on the kind of newt you want. Eastern newts are good, but hard to find nowadays. Do not put your newt in the same enclosure as your turtle...big mistake.

Since you live in Ohio, you should have gone to the reptile show. Just because it has the name "reptile", amphibians and invertebrates are often sold as well. I haven't been to the Ohio show myself, but know a few people who make the trip and they tell me it's a good one. There's another one coming up Nov 17: http://www.allohioshows.com/

Shows are the best source, since the prices are better than what you find in pet stores (you're more likely to be buying from the breeder rather than a middleman). You also get to see the animals and have a better idea of their health, size/age, gender, and color/patterns than what you'd get by buying online. But you're also limited by the selection onhand, unless you are willing to go a few times.

If you want to order online, you'll find a number of stores and breeders that advertise on kingsnake.com (here's a link to their amphibian classifieds: http://market.kingsnake.com/index.php?cat=14

Here's their main page, with a listing of breeders/suppliers near the bottom: http://www.kingsnake.com/

If you buy online, make sure the person/company selling the newts offers an "arrive alive" guarantee.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with going to your local pet store and asking a manager (or assistant in the reptile/fish department) if they would be able to order the type you want. That may be a little more expensive than some online sites, but you also wouldn't have to pay for shipping, so it could end up being cheaper.
