You came close to hitting it on the head. Players reps like Scott Boras have turned negotiating baseball contracts into a living hell. No longer is Team loyalty a term or feeling its a loathing. I come from the old school where a player who comes up with the team owes the team a certain loyaty. Not today. Alex should go into the hall of fame with a $ sign on his cap.

His job is to make his players rich which in turn makes himself rich. It's the free enterprise system at it's best! He is very good at what he does. The problem people have with him is that he doesn't endear himself to the fans or the media. But guess what? He could give a crap. He, and the players he represents, are the top of the food chain and we poor average "Joe" fans are nothing more than chum for the sharks.
I'm sure his 10% comission from the many players he deals with has made him as much money as any amount A-Rod has been able to pocket.
Boras IS a cancer of sorts because what he has managed to do is place many players on a pedestal. Baseball use to be a game where the players were accessible. Boras has helped to change all that. The players are now, NOT fan friendly. It's hard to like someone that won't even acknowledge your existence.

Yes, Boras is definitely a cancer to the baseball world. It is agents like him that are helping to RUIN the game of baseball. I also would like to blame the owners for allowing this to happen in the first place. All they had to do was say NO WAY and tell the greedy, money-hungry agents to GET LOST. Instead, they fall right into the agents' trap and ends up overpaying for a player that may or may not play to the potential and demands of the team, resulting in complete disappointment. And you hear people say "Why should we care? We're not the ones giving them the money". Well the truth is, we ARE in a way. When we attend games or buy baseball merchandise, we're helping to pay for the players' salaries. Multiply a million (representing fans that attend games a season) by the price of tickets and merchandise and you will see what I'm talking about.

I hate what free agency has done to baseball, but Scott Boras is not the problem. Free agency has been around much longer than Scott Boras has been an agent.
Before free agency, owners ruled baseball with an iron fist. They kept all the profits and could afford to keep ticket prices low because they paid their players peanuts while giving them no benefits. If an owner wanted to pay a player $32,000/year, he could because the player was not legally allowed to go to another team. Teams owned players, and a player had no say as to what team he played for or how much he was paid.
Free agency has been good for the players, but bad for the fans. Scott Boras is not the problem...he's just the best at his job.

Not just the MLB, but the economy. Boras should be put into a mental institution for at least 20 years, and he should be forced to share a room with someone that is carving something, that isn't there.

I think he is a contributor in all of this but the biggest cancer is the owners themselves...they can not help themselves but to cave into ridiculous requests by these agents. If the owners did not agree to spend ridiculous money (because they bring in ridiculous money) then they would never be in this situation. They have let the union get to strong and now the union bullies them on every issue that arises. Boras is a cancer but not THE cancer. All that being said, if I am a player, he is the first guy I call to negotiate for me. He gets them the most money which in BUSINESS is what you are after.

He's not my favorite guy, but he's really just doing what he gets paid to do. The job of an agent is to get the maximum value they can for a player, and that's what Boras does. If there's a problem, it's that the "best fit" for his guys always seems to be the team that offers the most money.
I hated the $252 million contract Alex Rodriguez signed, but that was the fault of Tom Hicks, the Rangers' owner, who outbid the others teams by almost $8m per season. The only annoying thing Boras did there was to bump it from $250 to $252, since that would be exactly double the size of the largest existing pro contract (Garnett's $126m).
It's kind of a catch-22 for me here. I don't like Boras much because I don't like seeing players priced out of range for teams like my Jays. At the same time, though, if I was a player, I would love to have him as my agent. I think he's now got to the point where he just enjoys toying with owners, and his ego has definitely gotten out of hand.
One thing to remember - Ultimately, the owners should take far more blame than an agent. If they didn't offer those ridiculous deals, then Boras wouldn't be able to take advantage of them so badly.

Relax my fellow Yankee fan. Put A-Rod and his vampire of an agent in the past. Let's look ahead to our future, which may look bleak now, but the sun will rise in the Bronx again. As for Scott Borass, he is doing what he was educated to do, get as much money as he can. That's what sports agents do, haven't you seen Jerry Macguire??! Steroids still remain as the main priority in baseball, and for all the major sports for that matter. Scott Borass is just an insignificant peon in the game of baseball. He can go to hell though.

Good point, Villain...every time that @sshole pushes thru another outrageous salary (which he makes a percentage of), the cost of attending a game, buying merchandise, etc goes up...He is one of the reasons I could not afford to go to a game more than once a month when I lived in a MLB city...and I was a college teacher... When are they gonna reach a ceiling?...
