My girlfriend and I would like to take our kids (boys-7 & 9, girl is 8) on a vacation next summer. We are from northern Ohio, and would be open to just about any suggestions. The only place we don't want to go is Disney(Florida). We're not really into camping, and we wouldn't mind flying or taking a road trip to get there. Any ideas for something to do next summer with the kids?? Please let me know.....also any web sites that you might know of!!! I greatly appreciate your help!!!!

Any educational place where you can get fresh air and excersise would be good. My suggestion would be Williamsburg, VA. Accomodations can be Bed and Breakfasts or the Hilton, they are so well set up to interest kidz in our counties history and participate in re enacting. Also great museums, great food and the Ocean is not far away for a change of pace. Beautiful road trip all the way thru the mountains too.

There is a great place to stay in Lake George, NY. It is the Great Escape Lodge. Lake George has a lot of fun things to do with the kids. But the lodge has an indoor water park. There is an amusement park across the street. You could go and spent the day in Lake George Village, go on a cruise. Let me know if you want anymore info.

Six Flags at St. Louis is a great place for kids that age, and then there is the St. Louis Zoo, and the Planetarium. It would
be a good road trip from Ohio. There is also Grants Farm that is especially enjoyable for kids as there are animals. I am
sure there is a lot more that I am not even aware of. Good luck.

Got to Coney Island or Kings Island! I LOVE them both. So do little kids. Carnivals are the best.

EDIT:

Actually speaking of Gatlinburg, I live there and Dollywood is AWSOME! I forgot about it. Look up a place called Park Vista to stay it's downtown and in the middle of a place called the strip. It has Ripley's aquarium,Pancake houses,Imax theatres, year round haunted houses, and all kinds of fun shops including a smaller space needle with a HUGE arcade at the bottom! I LOVE IT HERE! COME HERE!

Hershey Park - Hershey, PA

Busche Gardens (Africa) - Tampa, FL
(If here, definitely take backlot tour!)

Busche Gardens (Europe) - Williamsburg, VA

Universal Studios - Orlando, FL

These are more theme park-ish but are definitely worthwhile!
I have gone several times with my niece and nephew (6 & 10)
and they seemed to enjoy them a lot.

Hope this helps!

Try a trip to Alaska. It won't be cheap, but the kids will learn a lot, and you'll have a good time. I know that I did.
