According to Mrs. Clean...
How To Remove Blood Stains
Accidents do happen. If blood has stained a fabric that is dry clean only, immediately flush the thoroughly with cool water. Blot the wet area with an absorbent cotton towel or paper towel. Take the stained item to a reputable dry cleaner as soon as possible.

If the material or fabric is washable, rinse the blood stained area with cold water immediately. Then apply a paste of a powdered laundry detergent or shampoo and water, and then launder as usual.

Shampoo works really well to eliminate blood stains from of the machine and hand washables clothing. Fresh blood stains can be removed in seconds, while older stains may need a bit of soaking.

Several people have already mentioned hydrogen peroxide, but it's worth a try. It will remove fresh blood stains, but I'm not sure about old stains. I don't think it will hurt the carpet. I would saturate the stained area, let it set for awhile to work, then blot it up with a clean white cloth.

Good luck .

Try hydrogen peroxide or talk to a dry cleaners for some ideas oh what to use.
Are you trying to get rid of the evidence before the CSI forensics team comes in? Turn yourself in and save yourself all this trouble. I am only joking. (smile)
You do not have to move furniture for the carper cleaning people. They will either move it or clean around it. No problem.

Go to a pet supply shop or look online for something called "See Spot Go". It comes in a can and costs less than $10. You just spray it on any organic stain and it will be gone - no stain, no odor. It's amazing stuff. I've used it on pet stains, blood and vomit.

The steam cleaner probably 'set` that stain, but
you might try one of the enzyme cleaning products,
('Shout` eg.) to break down the proteins.
Might still work.
Citric acid might also help.

Place a wash cloth soaking wet with hydrogen peroxide on the spots and that will lift the spots.
