i plan on using the breathable bumpers, but all the crib bedding sets come with the cute, padded bumpers. any ideas on how to use a bumper to make something else for the baby's room?

i took the bumper out as soon as the lil' started sleeping in his crib... because it scared me. BUT... funny you should ask this becuase just the other day I was looking for something to do with our baby bumper. I took it and hung it around the wall, about half way up( it looks like a neat wallpaper trim). This works for us because we are renting and cant really paint the special touch we would like! good luck! or... when I took it outa his crib i used it to line the very bottom of the crib, like as a crib skirt.

Do not use a bumper no matter what its made out of. the risks of sids (if they corner themselves in it) is far too high. Use it as a wall hanging or something.

In australia since SIDS recommendations about bumpers, quilts, pillows, toys etc...in the cot have come in, the rate of death by sids has dropped 93%!!!

Don't waste money buying a crib bedding set. Just get sheets sets (top and bottom sheet) and cotton cellular blankets and when they are over 18mths you can use a thicker quilt or get some 'gro-bags' for baby for warmth.

I used bumpers with both my boys. When they start grabbing at them and pulling on them I take them out. But I kept them there as long as I could with no problems. Then again I don't use the cry it out method. I suppose if you were going to let them cry and not check on them the bumpers would be cause for concern.

Otherwise, they can't really mess with them until they are old enough to move/roll/grab.

I've thought of spliting the bumper into long body type pillows. My toddler is into pillows. Plus, they matching ones would even look cute on a shelf or hung (sew small ribbon) on the wall.

You can make them into throw pillows for any other furniture that's in the room, or make a big quilt out of them for later... Or even frame a piece of it.
