You start with one room at a time.Take everything almost out and put it in certain places or get rid of it Or have a yard sale after you go through everything.Make shelves in your closet or get a closet organizer. They have so many you can choose from. After you do the 1st room you can't wait to do the next.

Take it one area at a time and finish that before you move on to another one. Concentrate on organizing each area with boxes to keep, sell , throw away , give away. Stop and think where you want to start and I always tackle the biggest problem first so that the smaller jobs look like a piece of cake after you have tackled the hardest parts. Think ahead about what you want to do with what you keep and how to organize it into your closets, and other storage space. You should probably think about doing the closets first since then you will have space to put the things you get organized into there and out of your way so that you can move on and not be worried about where you will put the stuff that you want to keep out. This is a long involved process but you have to start small so that you won't be overwhelmed and take each accomplishment with a pat on the back to yourself and keep on going until you get it the way you want it. Don't procastinate just dig in and do it and you will not believe how much better you will feel when you look at it next time. You can do it if you just focus on it and stay determined. Good Luck.. p.s. watch the show "Clean House" on style network if you have cable and you will be amazed at what you can learn from them about organization.

I love those nesting baskets sets. They come in like a se of 4-5 and they are great. I have one on my table for mail, so when it is full I am forced to go thru it before my table is taken over by junk mail. I have a shelf and I have one basket for magazines, one for photos, and the big bottom one I but my sons toys in. They are the ones with the fabric liner and a bow so they look cute and organized... it is controlled chaos though. My house looks neat and tidy now because instead of my counter being covered with stuff, it is in a basket.

The only way I can get organized is to get rid of stuff I don't use and clear space so it is really easy to put away things.

At work, I clear out my desk, cabinets & drawers every 1-2 months.

At home, I'm going to have to streamline my kitchen items because my cabinets are full & it makes putting things away more tedious.

Stuff I don't need gets donated to charity or given to friends.
Old magazines get brought to the gym.
Old books are donated to my local library's book store.

If you haven't used something in a year, throw it out.

Never keep a cardboard box in your house for more than 24 hours if it's not being used for something. (my mother used to have closets full of empty cardboard boxes)

If you have clothes that do not fit, either sell them at a garage sale, donate them to a goodwill store, or throw them out. Don't fill your closets with stuff that you "might" be able to wear again some day.

Don't keep stuff because you "might need it". Recycle, sell, give away, donate, or just plain toss stuff you don't need.

I've heard that if u don't use some thing in one year........... get rid of it!
Ask friends and family to help u get it organized then after that u can do a little daily and keep it that way.

You need to make it part of your daily routine.
When it becomes habit then you can add another step.
