I hate the name Roy but I don't want to break his family tradition. I plan on calling the child by his middle name. I also sort of want a name that starts with J so he can be called R.J. if he wants and because my fathers name is Jay. But it doesn't have to start with J. Please give me some suggestions.

His name is Roy Matthew, he was called Matthew as a child but decided to be called Roy when he was a teenager so I call him Roy. Roy has to be the first name not the middle name.

Yeah, Roy isn't the greatest name. I don't blame you for focusing on a good middle name.
I think you need a long middle name to go with such a short name (depending on what your last name is). Roy Jamison or Roy Joshua, something like that. Roy Christopher is kind of nice or Roy Alexander.

Do you call your husband Roy or call him by his middle name? I actually think Roy is a better middle name than a first name, is it not possible to use it for the middle name rather than the first? If not, then here are a few suggestions:
Roy Jacob
Roy Jared
Roy Caleb
Roy Matthew
Roy Travis
Roy William
Good luck to you!

I think that you could pick out any middle name you wanted and still call him R.J. because since he's the fifth Roy he'll still be a Roy Jr. My sister's boyfriend is the third Robert William in his family and they call him B.J. (Bob Jr)
I actually like the name Roy, it's somwhat unusual these days and very masculine sounding! Besides all those old names are starting to become more and more popular anyway! I like the way Roy Robert, sounds but I'm sure that whatever you choose will be great!

Oh dear - five Roys in a row, huh?
I like the idea of RJ. Besides the fact that it's a very appealing nickname, it gives your son an identity apart from Dad.
I like Roy Joshua or Roy Jonathan. Since Roy is such a short first name, it seems like a few more syllables in the middle gives it some heft.
