Please provide explanation. My guess 1/-0.4 but I think only integers count as fractions?

1/-0.4=-2.5

Your answer is right but you should write it as a fraction or decimal number.

-0.4 = -4/10

So the multiplicative inverse is -10/4 = -5/2
-2 1/2 if you want a proper fraction. -2.5 if you want a decimal.

You are exactly right as to the inverse. The multiplicitive inverse is just what you must multiply a number by to get 1, which is 1 divided by the number.
