I need to staple a stack of A4 pages halfway. However i need to do this without creasing the pages (i.e. folding the paper so that stapler can reach the middle). Does anyone know a way around this or an alternative method i could use to achieve the same result?

Use the unfolded, upper half of the stapler into a piece of soft wood, carefully remove the wood and bend the staple ends over with a knife or somesuch tool.

(I can't see pushing a staple through a wad of paper by hand being successful).

Thanks for the question... some good ideas as answers.

I'd just add to the first technique mentioned that if you want to poke a hole in more than just two sheets of paper, you might want to use a straight pin or a safety pin to make tiny holes through the papers instead of trying to push a staple through.

If it's a really thick stack of papers, you might be able to use a hammer with a flat-head pin or with a needle (also the needles used in sewing machines are really sturdy and usually have a flat top you could easily hammer on)... you'd want to do the hammering on top of something though that wouldn't be a problem because the hole would come all the way through into it probably.

(You could mark exactly where to put the holes by touching the ends of the staple to a stamp pad, etc., then pressing it down on the paper where you want the staple to go... then just make the holes on the marks.)

(Didn't really know about opening the stapler, then stapling into a soft surface that could be removed before folding down the staples' legs, either... shoulda thought of that! Thanks.)

nichole is right
you need a long reach stapler, in the office supply, about 35 dollars, take care of it

make a test run before you actually use it, some are more friendly than others and you need to get the hang of it.

If you are only stapling a couple of pages, opening a stapler and using carpet underneath will work, but it is not practical if you have real work to be done, go with the long reach stapler. I have 2 of them and use them often for booklets

Hi:

Try this Take a ruler and put on the top right corner of the A4 Page and place the other end of the ruler on the bottom left side corner and using a pencil, very lightly make a line at on the A4 page along the ruler Then put the ruler at the top left corner and place the other end of it on the bottom right side corner and draw a very lightly draw a line where the ruler line and the other line intercept at, that is the exact center of the A4 page.

Or go from the Short side ( 8.3 or 8.5 inchs){ using a Ruler} and measure about 4 and 1/8 inches from it and from the Long Side ( 11inch) and measure about 5 and 1/2 inches from it and you should be in the ball park

Hope this helps

open the stapler out, lay your paper over a cork board or other semisoft surface, press the opened stapler into the paper, then turn the paper over and press the staple teeth down with a flat screwdriver.

You can also go to Kinko's and use their big stapler. Usually it's just sitting right out and doesn't cost anything. But the first suggestion is a good one too.
