If lotto tickets make her happy I would buy her as many as I could afford and let her have a good time with those. Are they the scratch off kind? That can be fun and get her something cool to scratch them off with.

The only thing I'd do different is to wait to grow up a little more before getting married and having my first child.
About your mom....that's a hard one. Maybe something that she can't return, like a subscription to a magazine that you know she reads....or even to the word search books... or a gift certificate to her favorite beauty shop, ect. The lotto tickets sounds like a sure thing, too. You just have to hit on the things you know for sure that she likes.

The one thing I'd change... There are actually two #1 I'd answer the call to preach when I was first called. #2 I'd put out more effort in school and get better grades so I could have stayed in college.
Your mom... Just get her the word search books a couple lottery tickets. Then remember to hug her real tight and always tell her you love her as you come and go.
You would be amazed at the number of people I deal with in grief situations who tell me that would give anything to be able to tell someone that they love them JUST ONE MORE TIME.

Word search books and lotto tickets would be fun. It might also be fun to take her out to eat at her favorite restaurant, or to a movie, or to a book store where she can select her own word search book and then you both go out for some cake and ice cream or coffee.....
In other words, spend time with her doing the things she likes to do. That is a fabulous gift.

Sorry but I do not want to discuss my youth! Not good time for me. As for your Mother get her Lotto tickets and word search books! The latter helps to keep her mind active and alert. I do a crossword puzzle every day - the Herald Tribune cross word puzzle! I swear it is expanding my brain. And I am 66 years young. All I want for Christmas is some nice warm fleece sweat pants and tops! CJ

I think my youth was better than most of my day so I wouldn't change a thing. For your mom, does she like to eat out. So many seniors are on a tight budget so they don't do that much. Instead of picking a high scale restaurant, how about some several moderate price range places w/ enough for two so she can take a friend and then maybe some Mc D, Hardees, Wendy's type places for breakfast or lunches. Does she still drive? How about car washes for her car in the automatic so she can just drive through to get the salt off in winter or mud in summer. You could spend as much as you can afford and it would give her options year round. My mom loves those type things and it's useable, not like your bombs of the past. o.k.

How about a monthly subscription to a word search book, give her lotto tickets, and some snack she really enjoys.

Is she mobile? If so, take her to the track. She can spend her Lotto money on the dogs/ horses, whatever. Buy her a cup of tea(or whatever), have yourself one, and enjoy the outdoors.
Just a thought.
