What is wrong with the current engine?
If is just a machine the engine and put in new pistons should run you around 1,700 bucks including labor. A new vehicle will run you at least 17,000 bucks but you wont have to worry about anything else for at least 5 or 10 years until the warranty runs out if you buy from a reputable company, even Chrysler is offering lifetime so is up to you. In short no matter what you decide to buy, take care of it with good maintenance a vehicle can last you a very long time. After a while you will just get bored and get another new one, trust me thats what I have done already once and ill do it again in about 3 years once this one is fully paid off. Don't lease that is just dumb if you want to trow away your money lease(in the end if you have even a little scratch they will want the whole car painted, not that they will painted anyways is just how they make money a second time).

I went through the same issue not long ago, I had a Jeep that was paid off, and I had put 265k miles on it. I had a cylinder that was weak and had to decide if I was going to rebuild or trde in.
For 1600.00 I could rebuild completely from top to bottom. My car was paid off, and I had no payments or increased insurance.
For 1600.00 I add my Jeep as a trade in, and make a payment every month, as well as increase my insurance to full coverage.
I rebuilt, and have put yet another 35k miles on my paid off Jeep.

it would probably be worth re-building this one,I'm wondering why it needs re-built,with just 50k on it,that's very low miles,if you got a really nice car though it would pay to rebuild it,you cant go out and buy a good car for what it would cost to re-build the engine, you can also check this site out for engines that are already built, they come with a 3 year 75 thousand mile warranty ,and that's the best in the business, good luck with it, http://www.jasperengines.com/

Just buy a new car. Make it a Toyota Corolla or a Toyota Camry. Those are the best cars on the market for the money.

i would have to say in my opinion if were wanting to rebuild your motor i would look up the blue prints to the SRT4 and go that way...but in the long run you would save time and energy by buying a new car but you will never be able to say its really your car if you know what i mean

what happened to your engine?? my neon timing belt broke and damaged the valves@ 137k .. cost me $1,300 to replace w/ used engine with 60k on it. It depends on how much money you have to throw at it. Personally, I would trade mine in, put some money down and make payments on a new car. I need a warranty on my vehicles. good luck w/ yours
