Montreal has players from a number of countries playing for them and the common language thread is English, not French. Gone are the days when the Habs were strictly a French team so the only reason I can see this being brought up is that Koivu can't give interviews in French and the media thinks that as captain of the Habs that is a necessity.
Bertrand can stick it where the sun don't shine. Koivu should make the deal he'll learn French when Bertrand learns Finnish.

One word... Latendresse... who cares what language the player speaks? it's about playing a game. Looking at Latendresse, it's obvious that we don't need to speak french to play well..ahem. I'll take Koivu any day over him.
It's an embarassement! I agree with people here at least TRYING to speak the official language, but give me a break...obviously Bertrand isn't a very busy guy..he needs to get a life and leave Koivu Alone.
though I think Koivu did a good job with his reply to that comment...he uses it at appropriate times with his wife in the bedroom LMAO he also did say that He does speak french when he goes to hospitals to visit the sick children (oh but he doesn't speak french fluently, so his visits there just aren't as important as a french speaking player)
he's too cute :)
My bf is an aussie, like Koivu, it's not that he can't speak french, but it can be embarasing to speak it when you aren't fluent, so he rarely speaks french. Doesnt' mean he doesn't understand or speak it. But it's HIS CHOICE what language he wants to speak!

honestly, he can go eat the **** out of a beaver's ***.
seriously, Saku Koivu speaks a little french, but apparently "not fluent enough"
jesus christ, give him a break. He's a good guy and I think he's a good captain.

I would tell him to go say "Tu Tienes Melones Grandes" to a hot Spanish woman and see how that goes over.
Either then that.. i would tell him to go to Britain and try his french there. I wonder how well that would go over..

I would tell Bertrand to go "seperate" himself from hockey and join the Bloc Quebecois. Both of their philosophies seem to be ideal for each other.
