I live in the bay area and I felt that 5.6 one last night, it was a good sized quake! I live about 15 miles from the epicenter. There's no way to determine when another quake will hit, just make sure you're always prepared. I hate earthquakes too, they scare the hell out of me. I went through the quake of 1989 and I had to sleep with the light on for 2 years after that happened. I even had to see a psychiatrist cause I was so scared after that.
Here's a link to the USGS that shows a list of all the quakes in California, the time and the size, this website has a lot of information http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsus/Maps/special/San_Francisco_eqs.php.

As far as I know there is still no scientific method of predicting the time, or magnitude, earthquakes.

No one can accurately predict earthquakes. Just chill. If it happens, it happens. You cannot do anything to stop it nor can you escape it if it is going to happen. Learn to embrace them.

If anyone can answer your question accurately, I am sure that scientists in the seismology discipline would like to have them aboard.

I heard there is going to be one tommorrow, 11/02/07. I also heard it's a 7.0. Just to remind you, it's something I HEARD so it might not be true.
