I live in the suburbs, and kids just ring the bell, get candy and move to the next house.
How exactly do you trick or treat in cities?

That's a very good question. I live in Chicago and there are several ways the kids do it.

If you live in a neighborhood where there are lots of houses, that's pretty self explanatory. Sometimes people who live in hoods where there are a lot of apartments, they will drive their kids to a hood where there are houses.

Most apartments are secure locked. Like mine for example. I live in an older building and by rights would get no treaters. I have devised a clever plan this year though because I love more than anything to give out candy to the kids. I bought a nice sign saying "trick or treat" and then I wrote a sign saying "for candy, please buzz (last name). So far I have gotten 2 groups. I honestly don't think that the larger high rise apartments have trick or treaters inside them.

Another thing that is really popular is the kids actually go to the stores and such to get candy. I live really close to Clark St. and was I was driving home from the store with my supply of candy, I saw hoards of kids going in and out of the stores. I have to say I doubt that their candy is as good as mine because I bought all chocolate and I would think that the stores would give out pure sugar.

Hope this helps you understand Halloween in the city!

Umm like everywhere else. When I lived in Brooklyn and still went trick or treating, we just walked around neighborhood ringing doorbells getting candy and moving on to the next house.

Not everything is apartments in NYC anyways. It's actually easier to get candy. The houses on the streets are close together sometimes attached and you could just jump onto the next person's porch. In apartments it's nice because it's not really cold.

In the big city you have to trick kids into taking the candy like:

-leave candy in small bank cash bags on the street
-wrapped in cute blue Tiffany boxes
-reverse mug them and shove the candy at them

The businesses downtown start passing out candy to trick or treaters about 3:30.............after that we do community things such as going to the nursing homes and then to the high school. Maybe a church shindig or two.

Go to each floor in your building and knock on doors and get the candy. 50 apartments = alot of candy. Then go to the apartment building across the street and get another bag full.
