I'm an emotional eater and recently I've found myself out of control! I am trying to unterstand the underlying causes of my urges to eat. I am wondering from an educated position if it is possible to stop this kind of behavior relying only on willpower.

Yes you can, will power comes from within, I always tell people to find something inside you that means more to you that what ever habit you are trying to overcome. Over eating is a habit you got into when emotional right, Obviously start a concerted effort to stay out of those positions. And you need an outlet like walking or riding a treadmill or something to take the place of the eating and you have to figure that out ahead atime so you are not searching for it when you need it. I stopped using tobacco. I walk around alot with a tooth pick in my mouth, it helps, and its not killing me. You can do it, I prayed alot and read the Bible a lot, if that helps you then do it, find away, exersize is great but it will not be an option everytime, so find something else for different times, and by all means try to stop getting so emotional. Relax, just smile, the sun will come up tomorrow, Jesus gives us a new day every day!!

Ok you shouldn't stop eating like slick up here said, you should just calm down. With answering your question, it depends on the person, I personally am very strong willed and can do anything if I put my mind to it, but it will be extremely hard to do. Try picking up a hobby instead like riding a bike when you get emotional, or some **** like that. Good luck

You have to be Super Hard to retire from eating. It takes a few weeks to get used to, but after you've gone without breakfast or dinner for a while, you'll wonder how you ever ate so much before!
