ever since I got married to my hubby his mum and sister always seem to backchat about another girl who is part of their family, I heard from someone that she was meant to get an arranged marriage with my hubby but my hubby didnt want to etc. anyway now that I'm married to my hubby my MIL always wants me to look all pretty especially when I'm in front of that girl and her family, she is maried as well btw. We are meant to be going to a birthday party and she is supposedly going to be there with her husband, I want to go dressed simple and my MIL was like "its up to you but so and so(that girl) is going to come dressed all grand and you may feel awkward", I was thinking to myself so what if she comes dressed up grand, who is she to me? I dont understand why my MIL is so eager to make me look all dressed up in front of them, its as if shes using me to hurt them or something

Sounds to me like your mil has a problem with you because of her own insecurities. I'd go the way I wanted. He's your husband!!! He married you not the other girl. Who really cares what either of them think. Get your husbands advice and the two of you dress how ever you are comfortable!

Be exactly who you are, go as you are comfortable appearing. You are not there to please the family, you are there because you choose to be. Don`t let anyone tell you what to do ever. You are an adult and it is up to you to realize that you make your own choices.'
Your MIL may want you to dress up, so as to send a message to the other woman, "see, she is better than you". This is very childish, your MIL needs to be right, and is using you to acheive that. Go as you are comfortable, not as someone that is having to act like someone they`re not .

I agree with you it sounds childish. I would dress accordingly for the party and not worry about what the MIL thinks or the other girl stand your ground and have a good time. I think the MIL needs to mind her own business.

Well sorry to say this but tell your MIL to "MIND HER OWN BUSINESS AND STAY OUT OF YOUR LIFE", her son choose you over that girl because he loves you no matter how you are or how you look if you can't say that then just try ignoring her. Don't pay much attention to her be yourself im sure your husband loves you very much and i don't think he cares if you look better that this other girl...

If you're comfortable with the situation, then just be yourself. If you're not comfortable, have a talk with your husband and find out what's on his mother's mind. I think you might be reading too much into this.
