I'm looking for a deep meaningful movie that involves a bad guy turning into a good guy and saves everybody. I especially like these movies when the bad guy almost dies and gets saved by a family/woman/old man/or a village or community in general. And i forget to mention if you've not figured out already I'd like it to be somewhat based on martial arts. A couple of movies i liked that are like this is jet li's "fearless" and "the last samurai". I don't mind what language it is as long as english subs are available.

Star Wars saga.

Good guy turns bad, and turns good again just in the nick-of-time and saves the galaxy by throwing an old man down a hole.

Light Saber duels are loosely based upon Samurai sword work.

U Turn by Oliver stone is awsome. Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, Claire Danes, Jennifer Lopez, Joaquin Phoenix, Powers Boothe. Its totally awsome! Money, Murder, Love , & a guy stuck in the middle of nowhere! his day just gets worse and worse! This is definitally my favorite movie of all time because it's an all star cast with a fantastic story, directed by oliver stone who made movies like natural born killers and PLATOON! Both of which also totally rock! In stones movies he always has little clips of what people are thinking, i really dig that. ENJOY!

The Thing by John Carpenter

I'm not sure that these are deep, but some might qualify:

"Unleashed" with Jet Li as a mobster's "pet" who is turned into a human being by an elderly blind man and the girl he also saved. It's so touching to see how he became what he's turned into and how he learns to be a person again, saving his friends of course.

"The Gun and the Pulpit" (1974 TV movie)~"In the days of the "Wild West", a gunslinger, with a price on his head, discovers the body of a traveling minister who has been killed in an ambush. Fearing those who are following him, he assumes the dead minister's identity."

Of course, he finds his way to a town where he will end up helping the people. The star is Marjoe Gortner, who received a lot of attention in the pilot for the "Kojak" series and was popular on talk shows for being a former child-minister. (His name is a combination of "Mary" and "Joseph", and he was quite a charmer.)

"The Music Man"~Professor Harold Hill, fast-talking con artist finds love and a reason to settle down. It's more lighthearted, but Hill obviously is a womanizer, the love 'em and leave 'em type, and he has operated his scams throughout the country. I always wondered if he really could settle down in that little town in Iowa.

"The Left Hand of God" (1955)~"A man in priestly robes, seemingly the long-awaited Father O'Shea (Humphrey Bogart), arrives at a little-frequented Catholic mission in 1947 China. Though the man seems curiously uncomfortable with his priestly duties, his tough tactics prove very successful in the Seven Villages, as around them China disintegrates in civil war and revolution. But he has a secret, and his friendship with mission nurse Anne (an attractive war widow) (Gene Tierney) seems to be taking on an unpriestly tone."

It's been awhile since I've seen it, but I believe he "proves his mettle" by becoming heroic when the time comes.

"We're No Angels" (1955)~"Three convicts escape from Devil's Island and arrive at a nearby French colonial town. Initially they plan to steal supplies and clothing from the local store, but they take a liking to the store owner's family (more specifically his attractive daughter) and decide to stay and help them overcome many difficulties."

Once more, the baddies turn out to have hearts of gold~if my mind isn't playing tricks on me.

"Ruckus" (1981)~"Kyle Hanson (Dirk Benedict) is a Vietnam veteran whose traumatic war-time experiences have left him unable to rejoin mainstream society. When Kyle, unkempt and in dirty fatigues, stops in a small town for some food, the local bullies can't wait for an opportunity to harass him. After Kyle uses his Special Forces training to escape the bullies, he becomes the subject of a community-wide manhunt. Only Jenny Bellows (Linda Blair), a local girl whose husband was declared missing in action in Vietnam, is willing to give Kyle a chance." I seem to recall that he's protective of the woman and retaliates only against the "manhunters".

This movie predates "First Blood", the first Rambo movies. When I saw that film, I recognized the storyline. What a ripoff!

"Nowhere to Run" (1993)~Jean Claude Van Damme
"Hard Target" (1993)~Jean Claude Van Damme
I think both of these have to do with a turnaround situation.

"Savage" (1997)~"After his family is murdered, and he's left for dead, a farmer (Olivier Gruner) awakens in the desert and finds himself transformed into a savage warrior, with all the powers and skills of the ancient gods. Guided by his "spirit masters" he's given a mission; destroy Tital Corporation, the world's most powerful high-tech computer company and its ambitious leader, Michael (?/Reese in credits) Burroughs. Burroughs has discovered the technological remains of an ancient race and a secret that will allow him to open the Vortex and achieve immortality. Out in the desert, ancient powers collide with sophisticated technology as the Savage and Burroughs meet in a titanic struggle that could destroy mankind."

Again, these might not be what you are looking for. I know there are many out there with the wounded man who is saved and changes for the better. If some of those come to mind, I'll return and add them.
